Job Description

The Plant Manager will engage in all such management duties as are reasonably necessary to ensure Sunterra's operations are properly, profitably and prudently conducted; to ensure that all safety and work standards are met and to maintain our present customer base as well as build it even further. The position honestly and diligently performs all of the duties with a view to the best interest of Sunterra and undertakes to comply and abide with all of the Sunterra's reasonable policies, rules and regulations as may be in effect from time to time.

Managing Personnel

Conducting background checks and hiring of employees consistent with Sunterra's hiring process. Supervision of managers, operators and other employees to ensure safety, quality control and other procedures are complied with. Preventing, managing and resolving conflicts. Ensuring all employees are properly trained and knowledgeable in their respective job

Safety & Maintenance

Ensuring that only properly trained employees operate Sunterra equipment. As ambient and/or other accumulated peat moss is a fire hazard, you must ensure that all equipment is cleaned on a regular basis. Developing a preventative maintenance schedule to ensure that all equipment is properly maintained and serviced on a regular basis (e.g., bearings greased monthly, etc); Ensuring compliance with all operating standards, etc. established and/or monitored by Sunterra's insurance carriers. Developing the agenda for, and leading, monthly safety meetings in coordination with the Health & Safety Manager to reinforce proper protocol for equipment operation, maintenance and fire safety for all Sunterra employees. Ensuring the yard, shop, baling and screening rooms are free from unnecessary debris. Ensuring that all safety standards are complied with and disciplining employees that do not obey Sunterra's Safety Guidelines.

Quality Control

Production without quality control is meaningless. As such, it is essential for the Plant Manager to be vigilant against quality control concerns and to constantly monitor the screening and baling operations to ensure Sunterra produces a product that is of the highest quality.

Cost Control

Playing an increasing role in actively managing production costs including by: Managing Sunterra's relationships with local vendors (pallets, fuel, equipment rentals, etc.) to ensure Sunterra obtains competitive pricing and quality materials. Managing freight costs by periodically canvassing Sunterra's preferred freight carriers throughout the season for lower rates. Managing staff levels to ensure that all employees are fully utilized.

Miscellaneous

+ Increasing productivity without compromising safety and quality. + Promptly collecting and forwarding of paperwork, invoices, payroll and expenses charges.
+ Generally anything that will assist in the enhancement of Sunterra's reputation and profitability, and.
other duties as assigned.

Qualifications

High school education or minimum 5-10 years of previous experience in a similar role Post secondary education in Supply Chain Management preferred. Knowledge of workplace Health and Safety regulations and ability to institute their practice to maintain everyone's safety Knowledge of mechanics, electricity, hydraulics, pneumatics and electronics Knowledge of operations management of a production site Knowledge of peat moss manufacturing considered an asset Knowledge of supply and inventory management methods Knowledge of production management methods Must have exceptional communication skills; verbal and written. Ability to plan, organize, multi-task, and prioritize in a fast-paced environment. Positive energy and attitude High Initiative, self-motivation and reliable Ability to maintain a professional demeanor when interacting with customers, vendors, staff and visitors.

Physical Requirements

Lift up to 50 lbs., sit and/or stand for extended periods. Able to work in a hot, humid environment. Capable of properly wearing applicable safety equipment (PPE), as required. * Capable of working in all weather conditions
