Headquartered in Toronto, Ontario, Canada, Capstone currently develops, owns, and operates thermal and renewable power generation facilities totaling 824 MW of installed capacity across 31 facilities in Canada.Capstone is seeking a Plant Manager who will be responsible for directing overall operations and maintenance as well as administrative activities, leading a highly skilled team, and managing and maintaining positive relationships with key stakeholders. This role is accountable for the operational oversight of the wind farms currently operating and under construction in the Medicine Hat area. The Plant Manager will ensure that the plant operates in compliance with all applicable safety, environmental, power generating, and contractual requirements consistent with financial and productivity objectives to achieve superior performance.The Plant Manager will report to the Western Regional Manager Director of Wind Operations for Capstone Power Management Services Inc. Capstone fosters an environment defined by excellence and integrity and offers attractive professional growth opportunities.PRIMARY RESPONSIBILITIES1. Operations and Maintenance:

  • Maximize plant availability and monitor plant maintenance for superior reliability
  • Coordinate and manage spare parts inventory
  • Ensure all plant assets are properly managed and safeguarded
  • Oversee day-to-day operations of the wind facility, including substation equipment
  • Support scheduled and unscheduled maintenance activities, including wind turbines, met towers, electrical collection systems, substations, collection systems, and roadways
  • Manage third-party repair activities to ensure they are performed to the optimum equipment maintenance practices and processes
  • Liaise with local and provincial utility and system operators for scheduled and unscheduled outages and other plant operational issues
2. Safety
  • Implement and adhere to Capstone safety policy and site safety manual.
  • Establish expectations for and foster a safe and clean working environment, ensuring that contractors and personnel consistently adhere to safe work practices
  • Regularly monitor the use of appropriate safety and protective equipment
  • Ensure all site workers have and maintain the required training certifications and proficiencies as required for the performance of all site activities
  • Ensure that all activities comply with regulatory requirements
3. Management & Administrations
  • Implement and adhere to plant policies and procedures
  • Analyze contractor staffing levels and qualifications to meet production targets
  • Work with the accounting team to oversee payments to landowners, municipalities, utilities, vendors, contractors, and others.
  • Become familiar with and manage, where applicable, key agreements with warranty and O&M providers, landowners, power purchasers, lenders, local communities, utility interconnection, and third-party contractors
  • Support the development of the annual business plan, budget, and long-term capital maintenance plan
  • Monitor expenses and production to budget and initiate corrective action as required
  • Oversee the preparation of reports for review by senior leadership and partners
4. Relationships
  • Act as the main point of contact for all project landowners.
  • Support and maintain positive relationships with project stakeholders
  • Address concerns of the community, legislative, taxation, and regulatory bodies
5. Regulatory
  • Maintain current working knowledge of all federal, provincial, and local laws, rules, and regulations that are relevant to the business
6. Environmental
  • Coordinate with Environmental Manager to ensure compliance with legislative requirements and Approvals
ADDITIONAL RESPONSIBILITIES
  • Work may involve lifting of heavy materials
  • Ability to climb vertical ladders up to 100 meters
  • Must be willing to monitor wind farm performance and reliability at all times and respond to callouts
KNOWLEDGE AND SKILL REQUIREMENTSProfessional Credentials
  • Undergraduate degree or trade certification in a related discipline
  • Five years in a supervisory role in power plant/renewable energy operations preferred
  • Demonstrated experience working with budgets, finance and accounting management, and strategic planning
  • Certified and competent in working with high-voltage switchgear and equipment
  • Strong knowledge of Microsoft computer-based applications with an overall high degree of computer-based proficiency

  • Ability to manage multiple competing priorities through effective organization and can prioritize work to meet deadlines
  • Ability to read, analyze, and interpret technical drawings, figures and reports, financial reports, and legal documents
  • Strong at defining problems, collecting data, establishing facts, and drawing valid conclusions
Interpersonal/Presentation Skills
  • Excellent communication skills and ability to successfully interact with all levels of the organization and with the public
  • Ability to effectively present information to the owner to a wide variety of audiences with varying levels of technical and organizational insight
