Manitoba Transportation and Infrastructure (MTI) is currently looking to fill a Planning Technologist in the Western Region. Conditions of Employment:


Must be legally entitled to work in Canada Must possess and maintain a valid full-stage Manitoba Class 5 driver's licence. Must be able to travel to work sites within the Region. Must be physically capable of performing all of the required job duties (lifting/carrying 0-25 kg, walking on rough terrain, sitting and standing for prolonged periods, climbing stairs and ladders, crouching, kneeling, bending, twisting, operating vehicles and wearing personal protective equipment). Must have the ability to work extended hours, weekends, and statutory holidays and be available to respond to emergencies.

Qualifications:


Essential:




Civil Technology graduate or completion of the Department's Level 3 training program. A suitable combination of education and experience may be considered. Extensive directly related experience in land development/land acquisition, functional planning, right-of-way or property management. Extensive directly related experience in programming for design and construction of road construction projects. Knowledge of relevant acts, relevant policies and procedures, human resource practices including occupational safety health and risk management. Strong interpersonal skills with the ability to communicate effectively and courteously with a variety of stakeholders. Excellent written communication skills with the ability to prepare reports. Effective organizational and time management skills with the ability to manage multiple priorities and meet deadlines. Demonstrated leadership skills and ability to make sound well-thought out decisions. Demonstrated ability to teach, orient and guide staff and provide appropriate technical guidance.

Duties:


The Regional Planning Technologist performs advanced paraprofessional work in land development, land acquisition, capital programming, environmental issues, functional planning, right-of-way management, utilities, other related functions, and provides engineering support to regional operations staff.

Some of the key responsibilities for this position include:


Co-ordinates the preparation of the proposed highway capital and preservation program, including assembling background information for review and prioritization by the regional management team. Delivers the regions utility permit process in coordination with highway engineering staff. Prepares and submits environmental submissions to environmental services branch on proposed projects including supplying background information for license applications.
