EXPRESSION OF INTEREST \xe2\x80\x93 WORK ASSIGNMENT: AOPS \xe2\x80\x93 TEST & TRIALS, PIPEFITTERS
Competition Open Date: February 28, 2023
Competition Close Date: March 7, 2023 (4pm)
We are looking for Local 1 Pipefitters interested in working with the Test & Trials team on the commissioning and trials of AOPS, which may also include sea trials. Test and Trials team consists of 13-15 ISI Trials Engineers, 10-12 tradespeople and equipment supplier technicians. The team is responsible for startup and operation of ships equipment and systems, troubleshooting to identify and resolve design issues, equipment and installation defects, and demonstrating to Canadian Navy and Lloyd\xe2\x80\x99s Register inspectors that AOPS meets contractual and statutory requirements. Qualifications \xe2\x80\x93 Education, Knowledge & Skills:

  • Member of Local 1 (Halifax Site)
  • Have a red seal qualification in the following trade:
    • Pipefitting
  • Individuals without red seal qualification but who have experience as a sea going Marine Engineer or equivalent naval experience are also eligible to apply
  • Experience in marine or industrial commissioning is considered an asset but not a requirement to apply
  • Experience in reading and understanding mechanical system drawings and equipment operating manuals
  • Ability to work independently to complete tasks effectively and efficiently
  • Work well with others in a team environment
  • Keen attention to detail
  • Able to keep accurate records and complete log books
  • Excellent safety record and ability to strictly adhere to Company safety procedures
  • A good attendance record (at or below Halifax Shipyard average)
  • Ability to work extended shifts and overtime as required
  • Ability to comply with Article 16 of the Collective Agreement
Specific duties include, but not be limited to:
  • Assist ISI Trials Engineers to startup, operate and troubleshoot ships equipment and systems
  • Repair defects identified during commissioning and trials
  • Operate ship\xe2\x80\x99s equipment and systems to support commissioning and trials
  • Assist equipment supplier technicians to commission and troubleshoot their equipment
  • Assist ISI Trials Engineers to demonstrate system performance to Canadian Navy and Lloyd\xe2\x80\x99s Register inspectors
