Position Overview

The Sport Medicine Centre within the Faculty of Kinesiology is currently seeking a Recurring Part-time Physiotherapist.

The Physiotherapist reports to the Clinical Manager. The Sport Medicine Centre is an integrated and multidisciplinary clinical, education and research facility within the Faculty of Kinesiology, specializing in the treatment and rehabilitation of sport related and other musculoskeletal injuries. The Sport Medicine Centre provides comprehensive sport medicine, surgical, physiotherapy, and other health care services to recreational, developing and elite athletes as well as other patients referred to us in Calgary and southern Alberta.

Position Description

Summary of Key Responsibilities (job functions include but are not limited to):

  • Ability to grow and manage a full caseload of patients in accordance with the service standards and expectations outlined by the Clinical Manager
  • Provides assessment, treatment, and management of patients in assigned clinical areas
  • Ensures the provision of evidence-informed care
  • Ensures patient care documentation is complete in accordance with Practice Standards of Physiotherapy Alberta
  • Keeps patient information confidential and releases this information only to authorized persons according to applicable legislation
  • Communicates with other services, departments, and individuals to facilitate interdisciplinary coordination of patient care
  • Attends all assigned meetings, conferences, and fulfills the obligations arising from same
  • Educates patients and family in necessary continuing treatments and procedures
  • Instructs and educates the patient and family in the appropriate follow up treatment
  • Ensures that the dignity and individual needs of the patient are addressed
  • Considers patient safety in all stages of treatment
  • Collects workload statistics in line with established procedures
  • Maintains all necessary records according to service procedures
  • Communicates appropriate concerns and problems to the Clinical Manager
  • Demonstrates effective communication skills with patients, staff members, the University Community, and other stakeholders
  • Shows respect for all staff members integrity and opinions when they differ from his/her own
  • Adheres to departmental and program educational standards
  • Participates in ongoing education within the Physiotherapy Unit, SMC and the Community
  • Understands and complies with the requirements of the University\'s Occupational Health and Safety Policy
Qualifications / Requirements:
  • Baccalaureate or Master of Physiotherapy (or equivalent) from a university program recognized by the Alliance of Physiotherapy Regulators
  • Registered in good standing with Physiotherapy Alberta (Must provide a copy to the Clinical Manager on a yearly basis)
  • Demonstration of advanced, post-graduate orthopedic training
  • Previous work with interdisciplinary health care teams, athletes or sports teams is considered an asset
  • A criminal record check is required
  • Must possess excellent interpersonal and communication skills; demonstrate initiative, creativity, empathy and sound judgment
  • Performs clinical assessments, diagnoses, and implements evidence-informed treatment plans
  • Effectively communicates with all members of the health care team to support optimal patient outcomes
  • Provides ongoing evaluation of patient progress and facilitates proper referrals when necessary
  • Administers and collects outcome measurement information
  • Participates in Quality Improvement initiatives
  • Engages in continual learning and skills development
  • Must be reliable, cooperative, flexible and must be able to demonstrate the ability to read and write legibly with a proven degree of competence in the English language
  • Must have highly developed organizational and time management skills
