Physician Assistants (PA) are academically prepared are highly skilled health care professionals who provide a broad range of medical services. As important members of the collaborative care team, Alberta Health Services (AHS) provides alternative job opportunities for PAs to act as health care extenders, working under the supervision and direction of a physician to complement existing services and aid in improving patient care. Physician Assistants are fully regulated health professionals in Alberta and must be registered with the College of Physicians and Surgeons of Alberta (CPSA). In this position the PA will deliver acute care to patients at the Alberta Children\'s Hospital within a multidisciplinary team in Pediatrics, providing support for patient admission, daily care and discharges, working with a team of pediatricians and subspecialists. The Alberta Children\'s Hospital provides comprehensive, tertiary inpatient acute and complex care to children in Southern Alberta, SE British Columbia and SW Saskatchewan; a catchment area of approximately 2.5 million people. The ACH provides 24/7 inpatient care to a wide variety of pediatric medical, subspecialty and surgical patients and provide support to our regional partners across Southern Alberta. We are a dynamic and diverse Department with a focus on collaboration, mentoring, teaching learners, and working within a multidisciplinary team. Description:
You will be working alongside physicians, nurses, pharmacists and dieticians. Job duties often include taking and documenting the history and physical examination, and carrying out a treatment plan under the direction of the attending/supervising physician. Duties will also include interfacing with nursing, allied health providers, providing education to patients and families, participating in safe transitions for patients being discharged, and care coordination. Appropriate supervision and support is provided and a formal orientation and assessment period will be implemented.
