Your Opportunity:

The Tom Baker Cancer Centre is Southern Alberta\'s own tertiary cancer center and a leader in innovative cancer research, prevention, treatment, and care initiatives across the province and beyond. The Pharmacy at the Tom Baker is an integral component of the facility. The Pharmacy Technician will be practicing within their full scope and perform all aspects of drug distribution to provide for the efficient daily operation of all departmental services and programs leading to safe and quality patient care. The Pharmacy Technician\'s responsibilities will include Order entry, preparation, repackaging and final product checking of sterile and non-sterile products, individual patient prescriptions, and ward stock. Guiding and assisting with the training and orientation of staff and students. Providing clinical support through obtaining information to facilitate medication reconciliation activities and clarifying discrepancies and/or collecting and organizing information to support the provision of direct patient care. Participating in special projects and programs as assigned. Maintaining department records, and statistics and preparing reports as required. Building interactive relationships with all members of the healthcare team including communicating with nursing staff to clarify orders and requests, triaging drug information questions and distribution issues. Maintaining a high standard of performance through completion of internal validation programs that assess proficiency in identified tasks such as aseptic technique, computer order entry, and final product checking.

Description:

As a Pharmacy Technician I, you will be responsible for the preparation and distribution of pharmaceutical products. You will receive and triage medication orders, compound and repackage medication and prepare sterile and non-sterile pharmaceutical products.

Required Qualifications:

Completion of a CCAPP-accredited Pharmacy Technician Training Program. Active or eligible for registration with the Alberta College of Pharmacy (ACP) as a Pharmacy Technician. Additional Required Qualifications:

2 years or more of direct oncology practice experience and sterile compounding is required. Must be an authorized chemotherapy checker. Connect Care oncology experience required. Prior hospital experience with a variety of responsibilities, including but not limited to order entry, checking, sterile compounding, and all aspects of drug distribution such as ward stock, narcotics, and individual prescriptions. Experience in all aspects of Oncology practice, including but not limited to IV order entry, setup, preparation, and medication distribution. Experience with validation programs that assess proficiency in identified tasks such as aseptic technique, computer order entry, and final product checking. 1 year or more experience in a retail Pharmacy setting. Membership in CAPhO. Membership with a Pharmacy professional organization.
