About the Opportunity


Reporting to the Pharmacy Manager, the Pharmacy Practice Assistant participates in the provision of safe, competent, patient or family centered ethical care, ensuring the goals and needs of the patient are prioritized and individualized. The Pharmacy Practice Assistant prepares, packages, and dispenses medication under the direct supervision of a pharmacist. Responsibilities include, but are not limited to, dispensing drugs to inpatients and outpatients in unit dose, traditional and CIVA systems, compounding sterile and non-sterile products, preparation of chemotherapy doses, distributing narcotics and participating in quality programs.

About You


We would love to hear from you if you have the following:
  • Grade XII (or equivalent) plus completion of a recognized Pharmacy Technician/Technology Program (accredited program preferred) OR one-year full-time experience as a hospital pharmacy technician OR two years’ experience as a community pharmacy technician
  • Licensure in Nova Scotia as a Pharmacy Technician (NSCP) is an asset
  • Two years' experience as a pharmacy technician/pharmacy practice assistant, preferably in a hospital, an asset
  • Experience in unit dose drug distribution systems, inventory control, automation technology, decentralized medication dispensing cabinets, an asset
  • Knowledge of sterile technique and special precautions used with chemotherapy are an asset
  • Knowledge of medical terminology, inventory control and record keeping
  • Demonstrated ability to perform mathematical calculations related to medications
  • Knowledge of the law and regulations pertaining to the receipt, storage and distribution of prescription and narcotic drugs
  • Effective communication and interpersonal skills
  • Ability to travel between sites is required
  • Competencies in other languages an asset, French preferred

Compensation and Incentives


$22.40 - $25.37 hourly Successful candidates may be eligible for our benefits package which includes health, dental, travel, long-term disability, and life insurance coverage as well as a defined benefit pension plan.
