About the Opportunity

Reporting to the Pharmacy Operations Manager, the Pharmacy Practice Assistant participates in the provision of safe, competent, patient or family centered ethical care, ensuring the goals and needs of the patient are prioritized and individualized. Using professional knowledge, critical thinking and clinical judgment, the Pharmacy Practice Assistant engages in independent, interdependent and dependent functions to provide health care focusing on appropriate data collection, inventory management, medication preparation, patient/family education, safe and accurate medication dispensing/distribution, coordination of care, internal and student education, and research. These functions may be self-determined, assigned by management, the pharmacist, another Pharmacy Practice Assistant or requested by other members of the care team.

About You

We would love to hear from you if you have the following:

  • Graduate of a recognized pharmacy technician/technology program (accredited program preferred). Candidates with commensurate experience and education may be considered.
  • Licensure in Nova Scotia as a Pharmacy Technician is an asset
  • Current CPR certification is an asset
  • Demonstrated ability to perform mathematical calculations related to medications
  • Knowledge of USP Chapter 797 Standards, Accreditation Standards and CSHP Compounding Guidelines for Pharmacies
  • Experience in unit dose drug distribution systems, automation technology, decentralized medication dispensing cabinets, an asset
  • Superior skills in Microsoft Office Suite
  • Knowledge of Pharmacy Information Systems, other patient information systems, as well as various software programs
  • Effective communication and interpersonal skills
  • Knowledge of the law and regulations pertaining to the receipt, storage and distribution of prescription and narcotic drugs
  • Competencies in other languages an asset, French preferred

Hours
  • Permanent, part-time (50%) position; 37.5 hours bi-weekly
Compensation and Incentives

$22.40 - $25.37 Hourly
