Job Summary:

Oversees employees and directs operations of the pharmacy department (92 & 93). Ensures that the pharmacy department complies with all applicable Provincial and Federal laws pertaining to the practice of pharmacy. Fulfills the role of a registered pharmacist in practicing direct patient care.

Responsibilities and Duties:

Manages Pharmacy Department

Appropriately schedules, develops, counsels, trains and directs department personnel and ensures quality patient care in line with productivity guidelines. Makes recommendations for hiring, promotion and termination to Pharmacy Operations Manager and Warehouse Manager. Reviews and approves department modified punch reports weekly. Implements consistently activities on Routine Tasks List. Point of contact for regulatory, legal, third party insurance companies and audit situations. Monitors pharmacy to ensure complete legal compliance. Observes employee performance, checks paperwork to ensure that proper department production, record keeping and product storage procedures and standards are followed. Implements and upholds safety and security procedures. Drafts and participates in presentation of employee performance evaluations. Reviews insurance payment records, department budget and financial statements. Maintains accurate record of third party payments. Meets budgeted plans for productivity and profitability. Communicates with regional Pharmacy Operations Manager and Pharmacy Team at the Central and regional offices. Ensures necessary reports and assignments are completed on time. Oversees the approval and submission of orders for supplies. Ensures proper maintenance and repairs of pharmacy department and fixed assets. Provides and ensures prompt and courteous member service. Provide patient counseling education on proper medication usage. Responds to patient concerns using problem solving skills, tact and discretion. Preserves patient confidentiality. Supervises and prepares for semi annual physical inventory. Oversees perpetual inventory of Schedule I and Narcotic and Controlled substances. Participates in Pharmacy meetings, conference calls, warehouse management meetings and holds necessary department and staff meetings including two department meeting / year. Oversees the merchandizing of the OTC section. Ensures Provincial legal requirements are met. This is a full-time management/leadership position.
Practices Pharmacy

Oversees and participates in dispensing prescription medications and checks for therapeutic appropriateness including but not limited to drug interactions allergies, contraindications, dose and frequency, and dosage form. Directly participates in, manages and fosters an environment that supports the pharmacy profession's expanded scope of practice as described in the Pharmacist Job Posting to the extent permitted by provincial regulations Fosters in a culture of patient safety by focusing on practices that reduce and eliminate prescription incidents as well as reporting in a timely manner and properly managing those incidents that do occur. Maintains professional competence through participation in a variety of continuing education initiatives and maintains required certifications in good standing. Completes the Provincial requirements to become a preceptor. Establishes a professional relationship with local Pharmacy Technician Colleges and Pharmacy Schools and acts as a preceptor for students and interns.
Qualifications and Skills

Education/Training: Bachelor of Science or Doctorate of Pharmacy required. Permits/Licenses/Certifications: Licensed Pharmacist in good standing with the BC College of Pharmacists. Experience: Management experience preferred. Pharmacy experience preferred. Knowledge/Skills: Computer (Kroll) and math skills preferred. Employee relations, communication (verbal and written), patient care and member service skills required.
