Pharmacy Manager

POSITION SUMMARY

Regulatory & Compliance



+ Ensure compliance with federal/provincial regulations, OCP, NAPRA, USP 797, ISO, and corporate SOPs.
+ Oversee and implement pharmacy policies, procedures, corrective actions, and compliance reporting.
+ Maintain knowledge of drug standards, compounding practices, and ODB billing requirements.

Pharmacy Operations Management



+ Manage daily pharmacy operations, ensuring accurate, timely, and clinically appropriate dispensing.
+ Support expanded scope of practice for regulated professionals.
+ Oversee inventory, narcotics control, environmental monitoring, and equipment maintenance.
+ Ensure timely handling of pharmacy facility alerts and issues.

Staffing & Leadership



+ Schedule and allocate pharmacy staff to meet workload demands.
+ Hire, train, mentor, and evaluate pharmacists and direct reports.
+ Handle performance management, conflict resolution, and payroll.
+ Maintain personal practice hours and perform pharmacist duties as needed.

Customer & Stakeholder Relations



+ Manage customer service issues and escalations.
+ Develop relationships with LHIN coordinators, hospitals, and prescribers.
+ Participate in audits, customer visits, and business development activities.

Communication & Coordination



+ Facilitate communication across teams; lead regular pharmacy meetings.
+ Represent pharmacy in cross-functional meetings and projects.

Technology & Reporting



+ Maintain proficiency in pharmacy systems and software.
+ Manage data entry, reporting, and document review/approvals.
+ Respond to inquiries from customers, regulators, and insurers.

Financial & Strategic Support



+ Assist in budgeting, cost control, and invoice/expense approvals.
+ Identify and support operational improvements and business opportunities.

RELATIONS WITH OTHERS



Internally: The Pharmacy Manager has daily contact with staff in the pharmacy, customer service, pharmacy assistants, cleanroom technicians, warehouse associates/supervisors, dispatchers and quality control associate/supervisor. The Pharmacy Manager will also have contact with corporate support services such as operations, quality assurance/control, sales, finance, human resources, IT and pharmacy members at other sites. The Pharmacy Manager will work closely and collaboratively with the Senior Manager, Pharmacy, Training and New Technologies on the implementation of policy, procedures and work instructions and in the pharmacy. Externally: There is daily contact with patients and their agents, HCCSS staff, nurses, physicians and other customers.

QUALIFICATIONS



Pharmacy Degree (BScPhm or PharmD) Licensed pharmacist in good standing with the Ontario College of Pharmacists, Part A register Three years pharmacy practice experience with management experience preferred Previous experience in IV sterile compounding and/or pharmaceutical GMP environment is strongly preferred

Excellent Leadership skills Excellent communication skills (written and verbal) Excellent customer service skills and the ability to collaborate with all levels both inside and outside the organization Strong computer skills in MS Office, Monarch, Simplicity, SAP with ability to learn new applications with ease Strong attention to detail with the ability to multi-task and handle fluctuating workloads Excellent organizational and problem solving skills Excellent continuous improvement skills Proven ability to adhere to standards & procedures and maintain confidentiality Strong interpersonal skills and positive leadership qualities Excellent organizational skills with attention to detail. Strong initiative to learn independently and ability to work under minimal supervision Ability to perform risk analysis and make decisions in ambiguous situations Ability to handle multiple demands made simultaneously under short time constraints. Excellent understanding of the Ontario Drug Benefit formulary and third party payors' requirements for prescription entry and electronic and manual billing Good business acumen Ability to travel as needed
