is a licensed pharmacist responsible for the overall management and operation of a community pharmacy. The DM ensures compliance with all legislative and regulatory requirements, oversees daily operations, and leads the pharmacy team to provide safe, effective, and patient-centered care.
Key Responsibilities:
Regulatory Compliance:
Ensure the pharmacy operates in accordance with the Drug and Pharmacies Regulation Act and its regulations.
Maintain the Standards of Operation for the pharmacy, including the implementation of the Assurance and Improvement in Medication Safety (AIMS) program to support patient safety and continuous quality improvement .
Operational Oversight:
Oversee the day-to-day operations of the pharmacy, ensuring efficient and accurate medication dispensing.
Develop and implement policies and procedures to ensure compliance with regulatory standards .
Staff Management:
Manage and supervise pharmacy staff, including hiring, training, and performance evaluations.
Provide staff members with the appropriate tools and resources to deliver safe and effective patient care .
Inventory and Financial Management:
Monitor medication inventory levels and order supplies as needed.
Oversee the overall operations of the pharmacy, including all inventory and financial aspects of the business .
Patient Care:
Provide counseling to patients on medication usage, side effects, and potential drug interactions.
Collaborate with healthcare professionals to provide optimal patient care and medication therapy management .
Quality Assurance:
Ensure that appropriate risk assessment and management systems are in place to mitigate risks to patient safety and prevent medication incidents.
Establish a safety culture such that pharmacy professionals and staff can be successful in meeting the requirements of the AIMS Program .
Qualifications:
Licensed and in good standing with the
Ontario College of Pharmacists
Injection certification
Strong communication, interpersonal, and problem-solving skills
Experience with pharmacy software systems (
Fillware
)
Ability to work independently and as part of a collaborative team
