This competition will be used to fill a term position of Petroleum Inspector for the Department of Business, Mining, Trade and Job Creation. Mining, Oil and Gas is a team of engineers, geologist(s), auditor(s), technicians, inspectors and administrative staff that ensure compliance with the Oil and Gas Act and associated regulations.

Conditions of Employment:


Must be legally entitled to work in Canada Must possess and maintain a full stage Class 5 Manitoba driver's license Must be physically capable of performing all of the required position duties including: sitting and standing for prolonged periods; prolonged walking outdoors and prolonged exposure to the elements; working in an active construction environment, which may require walking over uneven surfaces; physically capable of loading and unloading field equipment such as off-road vehicles and boats Must be willing to travel by air, water, off road vehicles and foot to remote locations in harsh conditions Must be willing to work on-call and outside regular working hours as required

Qualifications:


Essential:




Post-secondary education in agriculture, natural resource management or other science disciplines (i.e. Engineering). An equivalent combination of relevant education, training and experience may be considered. Experience in the upstream oil and gas industry, including the monitoring of exploration and development activities, application of engineering, environmental and safety standards and practices as it relates specifically to the exploration, development, operation and production of oil and gas resources. Experience in human resource management including supervising, training and mentoring staff.. Experience in managing standard project budgets and expenditures. Excellent written communication skills. Excellent verbal communication skills. Strong interpersonal skills with the ability to manage potentially high conflict situations effectively. Computer proficiency with word processing software, email programs, spreadsheet applications and databases. Experience using the Dominion Land Survey system and or GPS coordinates.


Duties:


The Petroleum Inspector is responsible for the delivery of regulatory compliance and enforcement programs relating to the upstream oil and gas industry. Conducts field inspections and approves technical programs and applications submitted by industry with respect to drilling, construction, production, operation, abandonment, decommissioning and reclamation of wells and facilities.
