Role Summary:
A Personal Support Worker (PSW) is a vital contributor to the healthcare system, dedicated to providing compassionate care for individuals who are elderly, living with chronic illnesses, or managing disabilities. Their role encompasses not only assisting with daily living activities but also offering emotional and social support, fostering a holistic approach to enhancing the well-being and quality of life of those they serve.
Key Responsibilities:
Assist client with activities of daily living, hygiene, hair care, dressing, assist with meals and feed or feeding clients.
Assist client with morning and evening (bedtime) routines
Administer bedside and personal care to clients such as aid in ambulation, personal hygiene, and dressing and undressing.
Proficient in the use of ceiling lifts and safe transfer techniques.
May perform routine health-related duties such as wound care, changing dressings, and assisting in the administration of medications
May perform light routine housekeeping duties such as washing dishes & making beds.
Report any changes in health condition, or safety risks to immediate supervisor.
Key Competencies:
Availability to work weekends.
Experience supporting client with limited mobility.
Comfortable working in an environment with a dog.
Proven ability to be friendly and not overly sensitive
Demonstrated ability to work with patients with dementia or cognitive impairments.
Demonstrated knowledge and practice of good body mechanics.
Good listening skills.
Ability to understand, interpret and carry out written or verbal instructions.
Proven ability to work with minimal supervision.
Demonstrated commitment to patient safety.
Demonstrated regular, punctual attendance.
Functional proficiency in English & French (oral and written).
Cultural education and experience.
Able to stand, bend, squat, kneel and reach freely; able to freely lift up to 35 pounds.
Ability to travel if needed.
Education:
Graduate of a Personal Support Worker Program from a Community College.
