As a valued member of our Resident Services team, you will provide care and assistance to our residents in accordance with policies, procedures and standard daily work routines.

Qualifications:



Personal Support Worker Certificate as endorsed by Ministry of Training Colleges and Universities is required.

Current Basic Cardiac Life Support Certificate / First Aid-CPR is required.

Ministry of Labour "Worker Health and Safety Awareness in 4 Steps" training certificate is required

Satisfactory Criminal Record Check with Vulnerable Sector Screening is required (dated within 6 months of employment start date).

2 Step TB testing is required.

Preference will be given to bilingual (French/English) candidates. Bilingualism is considered an asset.

N95 Mask Fit Test required.

Must possess a valid work/study permit and be legally eligible to work in Canada.

Must be available to work varying shifts, including nights.

Experience:



Recent experience working as a Personal Support Worker in home care, long term care, retirement or hospital setting.

Experience in geriatrics or gerontology is an asset.

An understanding of the needs and issues of the older adult is required.

Knowledge, Skills & Abilities:



Demonstrated interpersonal / communication skills Current certification in Non-Violent Crisis Intervention (NVCI) and Gentle Persuasion Approaches to Dementia Care (GPA) are asset Excellent teamwork and effective communication skills. Strong organizational and time-management skills. Capable of working efficiently in a fast-paced environment. Ability to work well independently and under pressure. High interpersonal and customer service skills. Availability to work days, evenings, nights and weekends is required. Experience in medication administration an asset. Willingness to update and keep current their knowledge of changing regulations, practices and procedures is a requirement. Demonstrated positive work record and good attendance record.

Tasks & Responsibilities:



Following the care plan, observing and reporting any substantial findings and/or changes in patient/resident/client's behavior to the appropriate registered member of the healthcare team. Working under the supervision of a Registered Healthcare Professional performing tasks delegated to them (only if they are trained to perform the delegated task) Observe and report changes in residents/tenants. Document such changes in the resident/tenant chart according to facility policy, while maintaining confidentiality. Assess resident's and tenant's health status by recognizing signs and symptoms and report to the Nursing Supervisor or Administrator as necessary. Administer medications and treatments as ordered by resident's and tenant's physicians within his/her limitations as set by the College of Nurses. Unlicensed Care Providers (UCPs) may give medications, provided they are trained and meet requirements of the facility medication administration policy. Provide supportive care in accordance with established policies and physicians orders. Assist in meeting physical, emotional and psychological needs of residents as directed. Keep drug and narcotic keys safe while on duty. Participate in staff development, safety, quality assurance, environmental and infection control programs. Deal courteously and respectfully with staff, residents/tenants, resident/tenant families and visitors. Demonstrate effective communication and time management skills in a retirement living setting. Complete daily, weekly and monthly duties as per policy. Serve in the dining room at mealtimes as necessary. Participate in Fire Safety and Mock Disaster procedures. Complete documentation as appropriate as per facility policies and guidelines. Answer emergency calls. Have knowledge of and adhere to facility policies and procedures. Report all accidents or incidents involved residents, tenants families, visitors, and personnel to the Nursing Supervisor or Administrator and complete the appropriate incident report. Perform monthly blood pressures and weights. Teach good health habits to residents and tenants. Assist residents with activities of daily living such as bathing, dressing, grooming and ambulation, when necessary. Provide emergency first aid/care until appropriate medical care is available. Assist with the moving in and moving out of residents when required. Assist with maintaining accurate records for "extra charges" when applicable. Arrive 15 minutes early to obtain and review reports daily before each shift and count narcotic medications; keep updated with important resident information. Perform the daily housekeeping tasks as per policy and procedure. Complete facility laundry as per policy and procedure. Have a full understanding of and practice Infection Prevention and Control policies. Work collaboratively and promote positive team spirit within the department. Maintains good attendance record according to company policy. Senior staff to assist in the orientation and training of new employees. Attends departmental and Home's staff meetings, in-services and other necessary training sessions. Perform other duties that are necessary and appropriate which may be assigned by the Nursing Supervisor or Administrator.
