Schedule / Terms of Employment: This is a full time (40 hours/week), permanent position

Primary Purpose

Reporting to the Manager, Regulatory and Permitting, the Permitting Coordinator is responsible for providing technical, process, and administrative coordination throughout the permitting process for various projects. The Permitting Coordinator will coordinate major applications that include, but are not limited to, Environmental Assessment Act application submissions, joint Mines Act/Environmental Management Act permit application submissions, and Notices of Work for coal exploration. The successful candidate will be a key member of the corporate Regulatory, Permitting, and Environment Team.

Responsibilities

  • Be a courageous safety leader, adhere to and sponsor safety and environmental rules and procedures.
  • Support Environmental and Regulatory Approvals of major and non-major projects, including coordinating and assisting with preparation and submission of permit applications, and technical reviews.
  • Provide technical, administrative and project management support for permitting projects, as needed.
  • Prepare status summaries, schedule reporting materials, and work with managers and directors on approval of documentation.
  • Coordinate with various consultants and contractors regarding deliverables, quotes and requisitions.
  • Other duties as assigned.
Education, Experience, and Qualifications
  • Bachelor\xe2\x80\x99s degree in Environmental Engineering, Earth Sciences, Environmental Sciences, Biology, or other similar degree.
  • 3-5 years or more of professional experience in a regulatory and/or permitting role.
Technical Competencies and Skills
  • Broad-based experience with environmental aspects related to permitting, including but not limited to water quality, air quality, environmental effects monitoring, regulatory liaising and consultation with stakeholders and First Nations.
  • Experience in working with multi-disciplinary teams, including operational, engineering, and environmental staff, to meet operational objectives, develop programs to manage risks, meet corporate and stakeholder requirements and maintain compliance.
  • Experience in preparing and/or coordinating and tracking permitting applications in the resource development industry or similar work.
  • Experience preparing documents, such as procedures, guidelines and schedules, an asset.
  • Experience developing and maintaining a permits register for multiple active applications, an asset.
  • Experience preparing reports for supervisors and developing and improving the Environmental Management System ensuring compliance with internal and external audit requirements.
  • Experience with GIS mapping an asset.
  • Specific knowledge and experience with permitting under the following BC legislation is an asset: Environmental Assessment Act, Water Sustainability Act, Environmental Management Act, Mines Act, Environmental Management Act, and Forest Act.
  • Excellent organization skills and a self-starter.
  • Skilled at using Microsoft Office\xc2\xae, particularly Excel, Project, PowerPoint and Word.
