Job Description

This is a Union position (BCGEU) 2 day / wk position - You would be physically able with good strength. You would be compassionate, enjoy being active, have a positive mind set, be light hearted in a Community Support Worker role. You would be working with a friendly, young man with who has a developmental disability and requires full time 1-1 support in areas such as walking/stability, communication, personal care & feeding, building relationships, developing lifeskills and being a positive part of his community.

This individual attends Satori day service 5 days/wk. Your position would be 6 hrs/ day 9-3 Tues&Thurs. His other staff works the M,W,F

The young man you would be caring for stands over 6'tall and is VERY active. He is super friendly, non verbal and uses augmentative communication. He has long strides and moves fast. He loves walks (in ALL weather), swimming and outdoors and in general being active. He enjoys social, recreational and community activities. He does not have violent tendencies, however can move fast and can be unaware of his own safety/risks along with others.

You would be calm but energetic, competent working alone and in group settings and be physically aware of good body mechanics. Regular communication with family and other caregivers is imperative.

You are encouraged to apply if you feel you might be a good fit, are quick on your feet, and enjoy outdoors. MANDT/CBI training would be an asset.

Casual work in other positions along with this position would be an option for M,W,F if interested.

You would require :

-Use of your own vehicle in good working order (with clear access to back seat space for individual)

- Vehicle and full Class 5 drivers' license (no 'N' no 'L')

-Clear Drivers abstract

- 5 million liability & business use on insurance

-Cell phone

-Clear criminal record check

- Current First Aid and CPR - or certify within 1st month of hiring. (St John's Emergency First Aid,Community Care / Basic First Aid - Formerly WorkSafeBC Occupational First Aid Level 1) . This is a job requirement - Employer does not pay - only renewals if hired.

- Clear TB test - This is a job requirement - Employer does not pay
