GENERAL ACCOUNTABILITIES
The People and Culture Generalist reports to the Manager of People and Culture, working closely with the Director of Housing Services. With direction from the People and Culture Manager, implement People and Culture policies and practices to meet our vision and align the workforce with strategic and recruitment goals during the transition of 65 Dundas Street East. Responsible for the recruitment process, including screening interviews, background checks, and keeping up to date on legislation that impacts recruitment within the housing sector. This role will involve the administration and maintenance of labour relations, employee relations, delivery of onboarding for new hires and maintaining employee records.
DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
Employee Life Cycle Management: (35%)
Coordinate full-cycle recruitment and selection activities for all vacancies and assist managers where needed, including administering new hire orientation; and onboarding within the assigned portfolio in accordance with any established Collective Agreement.
Coach and support managers and supervisors on effective interviewing techniques and update interviewing standard operating procedures as necessary.
Collaborate with IT to ensure proper equipment and resources before the new employee start date.
Work cross-functionally with various departments on HR matters that affect payroll (e.g., new employee documentation, benefits, ROEs, etc.).
Conducts regular check-ins with new personnel who are in the first three months of employment with the organization.
Employee and Labour Relations (25%)
Support and participate in employee & labour relations strategic projects.
Provide functional Human Resources support to employees.
Assist in the grievance process with Union partners; support mediation, arbitration, Labour Management Committees and workplace investigations with guidance from the Manager of People and Culture.
Training Supervisors/Managers in the application of the Collective Agreement.
Advise and assist departmental managers and employees on the interpretation and administration of the collective agreement, organizational policies and programs, ensuring compliance with policies and employment legislation;
Coordinate employee performance programs in adherence to Dixon Hall?s established calendar.
Training and Development (10%)
Support the Housing team to effectively meet established objectives by developing and implementing high-impact learning and development programs in line with organizational needs and priorities
Ensure compliance with training requirements for shelter/housing workers - in compliance with the Toronto Shelter Services and the eventual transition to Ontario Housing and Rental Tribunal and the Social Housing Act.
Support and implement training content for Dixon Hall?s employees.
Oversee required employee training and development and work with managers and supervisors to identify training needs.
HR Administration & Compliance (20%)
Process changes on the HRIS
Liaise with other staff (payroll, benefits etc.) to ensure policies and procedures have been carried out.
Attend daily stand-up meetings with the Director of People and Culture and weekly People and Culture team meetings.
Prepare confidential documents and related paperwork (e.g., position change letters, salary increase letters, disciplinary letters etc.).
Provide support for the organization?s equity, diversity and inclusion strategy, including managing external training vendors and internal education sessions.
Coordinate with departmental managers and supervisors on WSIB claims, return to work and leave of absence procedures.
Drive employee engagement insight initiatives, including creating and executing employee surveys and compiling and presenting results.
Generate reports for the Manager, People & Culture, management, or the leadership team, to enable management decision-making.
Other Duties as Assigned or Required (10%)
QUALIFICATIONS AND COMPETENCIES
3-4 years of experience in a related role in organizational development, talent, and/or culture management or complementary HR, recruitment, or similar experience.
2-3 years of experience with Labour and Employee relations is preferred.
Bachelor's degree or Diploma in Human Resource Management or Industrial Relations and Labour Law; additional designations or diplomas are an asset (e.g. CHRP).
Exceptional communication skills, both written and verbal.
Flexible and adaptable; able to work in ambiguous situations.
Highly motivated, energetic individual with the ability to be self-directed.
A genuine collaborator and team player - an inclusive mindset and ability to build great relationships at all levels of the organization
High level of judgment and integrity, including excellent decision-making skills and a sense of urgency.
Must be qualified to work in Canada legally for the employer.
Able to provide a Vulnerable Sector Screening check with a ?Clear? or satisfactory result that meets the operational requirements of the Agency.
MUST be fully vaccinated (two [2] doses) against COVID-19 with a vaccine that has been approved for use in Canada.
