ORGANIZATIONAL BACKGROUND
The Mental Health Commission of Canada (MHCC) is a non-profit organization created to focus national attention on mental health issues and to work to improve the health and social outcomes of people living with mental illness.
The Commission is seen as a leader nationally and internationally in several areas. Building upon the work done to date, the core mandate, and the unique position of the Commission, and guided by Changing Directions Changing Lives: The Mental Health Strategy for Canada, the Commission will focus in the areas of, substance use, suicide prevention, population-based initiatives, and engagement. POSITION OVERVIEW
The People and Culture Coordinator supports the People and Culture (P&C) team in delivering a positive employee experience across all stages of the employee lifecycle. This role focuses on providing administrative support across key P&C programs, including learning and development, performance management, recruitment, employee metrics, and HRIS updates.
The ideal candidate has 1-2 years of experience working within an HR team and demonstrates strong organizational skills, attention to detail, and a passion for people-focused initiatives.
DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES
Performance Management:
Support with the administration, preparation and execution of performance review cycles (e.g., launching review periods, tracking completions, sending reminders).
Assist with compiling performance data and reports for leadership review.
Maintain templates and resources related to performance processes.
Recruitment:
Post job advertisements on internal and external platforms.
Schedule interviews, support Employee Experience Business Partners (EEBPs) with drafting offer letters and extension letters and support the onboarding process.
Assist in tracking recruitment metrics (e.g., time-to-fill, source of hire).
Metrics and Reporting:
Maintain and update employee-related trackers (e.g., headcount, turnover, training participation).
Generate regular HR metrics reports for leadership as directed.
Support data collection for compliance and audit purposes.
Learning and Development (L&D) Support:
Coordinate logistics for training sessions, including scheduling, materials preparation, and participant communications.
Track employee training completions and maintain learning records.
Assist in updating training calendars and development resources.
HRIS Administration:
Process employee changes in the HRIS system (e.g., promotions, salary changes, personal information updates).
Ensure data accuracy and assist with regular audits of employee records.
Assist with preparing reports or exports from the HRIS as needed.
Functions as the back-up for running our Payroll when needed.
General Coordination:
Respond to routine employee inquiries related to HR programs and processes.
Maintain digital HR files in compliance with record-keeping standards.
Support special projects and initiatives led by the People and Culture team.
SKILLS AND EXPERIENCE
Strong organizational and time management skills with an ability to manage multiple priorities.
High attention to detail and commitment to data accuracy.
Strong communication skills (written and verbal) and a professional, approachable manner.
Discretion in handling confidential and sensitive information.
Proficiency with Microsoft Office Suite (Excel, Word, Outlook) and HRIS platforms (experience with ADP Workforce Now is an asset).
A growth mindset and willingness to learn new systems and processes.
QUALIFICATIONS
Post-secondary education in Human Resources, Business Administration, or a related field.
1-2 years of experience (co-op experience welcomed) in a Human Resources support role, preferably within a generalist or operations team.
