NOTE: This position is limited to NAIT students only.

Peer writing tutors work with clients (mostly NAIT students) on improving writing skills via one-on-one appointments, group appointments, and drop-in tutoring sessions. Tutoring may occur virtually or in-person in the NAIT Writing Centre.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Help NAIT students from all program areas understand writing assignments and develop and plan writing processes, including:
  • Organizing ideas, developing arguments, and creating strong thesis statements and topic sentences.
  • Integrating primary & secondary sources.
  • Review essays, research papers, lab reports, and other types of writing for flow, clarity, and conciseness.
  • Coach students to adopt effective writing and self-editing strategies.
  • Discuss with international and multilingual students about Canadian writing conventions and academic expectations.
  • Visit classrooms and promote the Writing Centre services.
Skills & Abilities:
  • Writing, research, and communication skills
  • Ability to assess student tutoring needs.
  • Ability to interact effectively with diverse individuals and groups
Qualifications:
  • Successful completion of at least one semester course load at NAIT with a GPA of 3.75
  • Tutoring experience of up to 12 months at a post-secondary learning/writing center is an asset
  • Experience working with ESL/EAL students is an asset
  • Equivalencies may be considered
Remuneration: $15.00 hourly, plus 12% in lieu of statutory holidays and vacation pay (Classification - Tutor I).

This position is covered by the Alberta Union of Provincial Employees (AUPE) Collective Agreement.
