JOB SUMMARY:
The Children Who Witness Abuse Counselor/Group Facilitator is responsible for:
The planning and provision of individual and group counselling to children and/or their parents who have witnessed violence
Promoting community awareness regarding the impact witnessing violence has on children,
Prevention activities in schools.
QUALIFICATIONS:
The Children Who Witness Abuse Counselor will have:
Bachelor degree in a related human/social service field as well as one year experience in a supervised childcare setting; or
Four years combination of education and experience.

A willingness to work flexible hours;
A strong understanding of and a commitment to a feminist informed practice; and
A person centered practical approach
Capacity of working in extreme crisis and traumatic situations.
SKILLS & KNOWLEDGE:
Must have an understanding of family violence, the dynamics of emotional, sexual and physical abuse and family systems.
Awareness of art/play therapy
Excellent organizational skills and ability to work independently
Good group facilitation and public presentation skills
Good verbal and written communications
Good relationship skills with staff, professionals, and agency personnel
Ability to work as a team member with staff, service recipients, police, social workers hospital workers and other pertinent individuals or professionals
Independent ability to use computers and familiarity with relevant software programs
Must have a valid driver's license
Crisis Response Training
First Aid Certificate
Suicide Prevention & Intervention Certificate
Understanding and competence in working with diverse cultures, particularly aboriginal people.
HOURS OF WORK:
28 hours per week, flexible to meet program needs
RATE OF PAY:
$37.18 per hour
