Duties:

  • Leads and manages a team of protection and control engineers and technologists,
headquartered at the Burnaby, Edmonds office location, providing maintenance engineering and
operational support services to Stations Asset Planning, Stations Field Operations, and T&D
System Operations groups.

  • Ensures that team members have the required expertise and tools to complete the work with
high quality, value, on schedule, and on budget.

  • Provides technical leadership, instructions, advice and guidance to team members.

  • Provides technical leadership to address preventive, corrective, and condition-based
maintenance to be performed by BC Hydro crews and by external vendors.

  • Provides safety leadership and advocates for Life Saving Rules and Just Culture.

  • Actively supports a safe, diverse, inclusive, and respectful workplace.

  • Investigates and analyzes challenging or unusual technical problems; develops alternatives;
evaluates risks; and provides a summary of alternatives.

  • Develops business objectives, standards, and performance measurements.

  • Manages the technical and operational performance of the team to meet objectives.

  • Ensures compliance with regulatory requirements, such as those included in the EGBC Bylaws
and the Professional Governance Act

  • Recruits, trains, and develops employees. Appraises staff performance and provides regular




feedback in order to maintain and improve required technical expertise. Facilitates the
development of employee soft skills such as persuasive influence, collaboration, and conflict
resolution.

  • Develops the engineering capabilities of the team and drives ongoing improvements in the
planning for and execution of work.

  • Collaborate with divisional Leadership Team to identify process improvement opportunities and
solutions.

  • Build/maintain relationships with peers in other business units in order to improve collaboration
and ensure efficient use of resources.


Qualifications:

  • A recognized Electrical Engineering degree and registered as a Professional Engineer or Limited
Licensee with Engineers and Geoscientists BC (EGBC).

  • A minimum of 10 years of progressive electrical engineering experience, including technical
experience in protection and control systems.

  • Strong strategic thinking, leadership and business planning skills.

  • Excellent verbal, written, and interpersonal skills including the ability to build solid relationships
with internal and external clients.

  • Proven ability to deliver in matrix organization.

  • Technical expertise in generator, station, and/or line protection and control systems is preferred.

  • Familiarity with NERC standards and experience in compliance is an asset.


ADDITIONAL INFORMATION
  • Driver\'s License Type = Class 5 is required

  • EGBC: Engineers & GeoScientists BC = In Good Standing

Our four role types identify the degree of flexibility an employee could have to work from home
based on the type of work they do. The flexibility for an individual job is up to the manager for
each position and the operational requirements. Employees also have the right to work full-time
from the office if they prefer. All of our roles require at least some in-person time.

Resident \xe2\x80\x93 Works primarily (4+ days per week) in the office.
Hybrid \xe2\x80\x93 May be able to work from home up to 3 days per week.
Remote \xe2\x80\x93 Works from home 4+ days per week
