Job Description


We have partnered with an established company in East Vancouver to recruit a Payroll Specialist for a two-month contract. This is an exciting opportunity for a detail-oriented payroll professional to join a dynamic team and make an immediate impact.The role involves full-cycle payroll processing, auditing payroll data, reconciling benefits, and ensuring compliance with payroll regulations and collective agreements.   • $25-32/hour
Roles and Responsibilities:
  • Process payroll by calculating, verifying, and entering all necessary adjustments.
  • Enroll new employees in payroll and benefits systems, ensuring accurate banking and tax information.
  • Generate and distribute payroll deposits and cheques, recording all transactions accordingly.
  • Prepare T4s, T4As, honorariums, and non-union payments.
  • Monitor leave balances, ensuring employees do not exceed vacation or absence entitlements.
  • Handle payroll adjustments, retroactive pay calculations, and overpayment processes.
  • Conduct year-end payroll reconciliation to ensure accuracy in earnings, deductions, and benefit accounts.
  • Respond to employee inquiries regarding payroll, deductions, and benefits.
  • Ensure compliance with payroll regulations, collective agreements, and taxation rules.
  • Maintain accurate payroll records, process pension buy-backs, and track benefit premium payments for employees on leave.
Qualifications:
  • Completion of Grade 12 with 2-3 years of post-secondary education, including coursework in accounting and payroll administration.
  • Canadian Payroll Association (CPA) certification or equivalent payroll training is preferred.
  • 2-4 years of experience in payroll processing, ideally in a large multi-union environment.
  • Strong knowledge of payroll regulations, tax deductions, and benefits policies.
  • Proficiency in payroll software, Microsoft Office, and financial reconciliation.
  • Ability to process payroll accurately and efficiently while managing multiple deadlines.
  • Strong communication skills for handling employee inquiries and coordinating with external agencies.
  • Detail-oriented with the ability to maintain accurate records and financial documentation.
