Payroll & HR Specialist

Reporting to the HR Manager, as the Payroll & HR Specialist, you will have extensive experience in Full Cycle Canadian Payroll and solid experience with HR Generalist duties to successfully support the Human Resources department.

Key Responsibilities

  • Compiling and processing employee time and attendance data in compliance with current Provincial ESA and relevant legislations
  • Inspect data entered by others in UKG including but not limited to time worked, vacations, personal time off and LOA legislated by applicable provincial employment standards
  • Process weekly payroll for CTDI Canada all employees including wages, taxes and third-party payments
  • Administer and report voluntary deductions as well as garnishments, pay levies and other involuntary payments to appropriate authorities in a timely manner
  • Guarantee timely processing of payroll in accordance with labor standards and standard accounting principles
  • Facilitate Staff with general payroll & benefit inquiries, issues, wage deductions, PTO accruals
  • Maintain regular payroll reporting as required and assist with financial audits related to pay records and associated general ledger
  • Knowledge of UKG time/attendance and payroll systems
  • Administer employee benefits such as group health, Dental, Vision, AD&D, Life insurance, and RRSP
  • Oversee maintenance of employee benefits files, maintain group benefits database and update employee payroll records
  • Gather employee data and oversee the processing of monthly billings and prepare requests for payment of monthly billing.
  • Maintain employee benefits filing systems and ensure benefits changes are entered appropriately in UKG for payroll deductions
  • Assist employees with health, dental, life and other related benefit claims and/or questions
  • Reconcile monthly benefit billing against payroll deductions
  • Recruiting and staffing

  • Assisting with the safety and security functions
  • Other duties and responsibilities as assigned by the HR Manager
Required Skills
  • Must be Certified Payroll Compliance Practitioner (PCP) or equivalent experience
  • UKG payroll system experience is a strong asset
  • Minimum of 3-5 years of experience in Full Cycle payroll
  • Minimum of 2-3 years of experience in administering benefit plans
  • 5+ years professional Human Resources generalist experience, preferably in a production environment with an emphasis on employee relations
  • Thorough knowledge of employment law, ESA, and the principles and practices of effective Human resources management
  • Attention to detail and accuracy is essential along with well-established organization skills and the ability to handle multiple tasks and responsibilities while recognizing priorities
  • Must be able to handle sensitive issues in a professional manner
  • Excellent listening, communication, oral presentation, and writing skills
  • Solid analytical, and problem-solving skills
  • Excellent organizational and follow-up skills
  • Exceptional customer service skills
