Key Responsibilities:



The Payroll Assistant/ Coordinator manages payroll functions, ensuring accuracy, compliance, and timely processing for all employees. You will provide payroll guidance to enhance the team performance and efficiency, ensure compliance, performance and growth.

Payroll Processing:

Manage new hires, terminations, wage adjustments, and transfers in Xyntax. Ensure compliance while fostering performance and professional development within the payroll team.

Data Management:

Maintain accurate and confidential employee profiles.

Interdepartmental Communication:

Collaborate with departments to ensure timely payroll information submission.

Inquiry Resolution:

Address payroll and vacation related inquiries from employees promptly.

Documentation Preparation:

Prepare year-end documents and records of employment as needed.

Audit and Accuracy:

Conduct audits of payroll reports to identify and resolve discrepancies.

Timely Payments:

Ensure accurate and timely salary payments to employees and contractors.

Reporting and Analysis:

Gather and analyze payroll data for reporting and benefits administration.

Policy Adherence:

Ensure compliance with relevant regulations and GNN policies.

Vacation Balances:

Assist in maintaining accurate vacation balances and accruals, ensuring proper vacation pay, and support the transition to HRIS and payroll software.

Additional Duties:

Perform other related tasks as assigned.

Preferred Qualifications:



Required:



Payroll experience preferred. Strong organizational skills and attention to detail. Proficiency in Microsoft Excel and Word. Excellent verbal and written communication skills. Ability to multi-task and work collaboratively.

Preferred:



Payroll Compliance Practitioner (PCP) Certification or in progress. Basic accounting knowledge. Experience with payroll systems and internal controls.

Skills:



Proficient in Microsoft Office Suite (Teams, Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Outlook). Self-motivated with the ability to work independently and in teams. Strong problem-solving skills and initiative. Effective interpersonal skills to build relationships across diverse teams. Culturally aware and sensitive to the needs of the GNN staff and community.

Working Conditions:



The office is open from 8.00 am- 4.00 pm Monday to Friday. Flexibility needed for travel as well availability for meetings or business afterhours and weekends.

The position adheres to the personnel policies, procedures and code of ethics of the Gwa'sala-Nakwaxda'xw Nation.
