The role...

JFE Shoji Power Canada Inc. is seeking Payroll & Benefits Specialist to join our growing team! Reporting to our Human Resource Business Partner, the Payroll & Benefits Specialist has payroll and benefits account maintenance, vacation, hourly vacation accruals, reconciliations, Year End Processing, and reporting responsibilities. This is a 6-12 month contract position with the possibility to extend into a permanent position.

& the Duties...

Payroll

  • Responsible for the accurate and timely bi-weekly processing of payroll for hourly and salary employees for the province of Ontario.
  • Highly experienced with Year End Processing, preparation of year end employee tax slips or forms (T4's, T4A's and T2200's) and submitting government filings to meet deadlines
  • Experience with Expatriates, working in conjunction with Tax consultant for processing of Taxable benefits, housing allowance, tax withholdings, salary adjustments, etc
  • Responsible for the remittance of various deductions; reconcile payroll accounts with the General Ledger; ensure accurate expense and liability accounts are processed.
  • Experience in a manufacturing environment working with multiple schedules and shift rotations in a continuous operations environment
  • Validation of timecards for errors and accuracy prior to payroll processing, performed on a weekly basis
  • Responsible for annual EHT remittances and PEIR reports, CPP, EI and Tax Discrepancies reports
  • Processing garnishments and FRO payments
  • Understanding and processing of internal company programs, such as Perfect Attendance and Production Bonus
  • Responsible for the maintenance of payroll records for internal and external requirements.
  • Responsible for payroll audits for internal and external auditors.
  • Liaise closely with Finance department to ensure accurate costing of payroll; provide payroll information when required for the filing of corporate tax returns, accounting for deferred development projects and liaises with Finance on taxation issues.
  • Responsible for identifying legal requirements and government reporting regulations affecting payroll functions
  • Process Terminations and generate Records of Employment (ROE); experience with ROE Web for amendments
  • Partner with Human Resources to ensure accurate and timely processing of new hires, terminations, and merit increases.
  • Address or respond to inquiries from managers, employees and finance department regarding payroll and expenses.
  • Administer bonus incentive process and approvals on a bi-weekly and annual basis.
Benefits
  • Month end accruals and reconciliation of benefit accounts and payroll sub-ledger to the general ledger
  • Handles bi-weekly Group Pension/RRSP remittances, liaising with RSP provider
Reporting
  • Overall responsibility for timely remittance and reporting of statutory contributions in compliance with regulations and statutory requirements
  • Other duties requested by Management

& the skills, knowledge & abilities required...
  • A minimum of 5 years of payroll experience.
  • Holds a Certified Payroll Designation through the NPI (National Payroll Institute), PCP, CPM
  • 2-3 years' experience working in a manufacturing environment would be an asset
  • Proficient in Excel, Word, PowerPoint
  • Must have experience with ADP Work Force Now
  • Ability to maintain strict confidentiality.
  • Accuracy and attention to detail is critical.
  • Strong initiative and self-motivation skills.
  • Excellent organizational, prioritization and time management skills to deal with strict deadlines.
  • Proven ability to effectively multi-task in a fast-paced deadline driven environment.
  • Ability to adapt quickly to demanding situations.
  • Excellent interpersonal and business communication skills.
  • Strong aptitude for computer systems and software.
  • Demonstrated ability to work co-operatively in a tightly knit team and individually.
