We are currently accepting resumes for an experienced Payroll and Benefits Coordinator for our Head Office in
Smithers, BC operations.
Start Date: As Soon As Possible Job Summary: Reporting to the Director of Human Resources & Payroll, the Payroll and Benefits Coordinator ensures that all
aspects of full cycle payroll for all employees, including time & attendance and payroll systems as well as the
company\xe2\x80\x99s group benefit programs, are processed in a timely and accurate manner and in accordance with
Company and government policies, requirements and regulations.

Duties and responsibilities:
  • Process bi-weekly payroll for all salaried and hourly employees, as well as commission and bonus payments
  • Check payroll entries
  • Compile payroll data such as garnishments, vacation time, insurance and other deductions
  • Reconcile payroll totals and ensure all deductions to unions and health benefit plans are made as scheduled
  • Ensure accurate processing of sick pay, benefits and vacation payouts
  • Respond to employee and government agency inquiries in regards to payroll
  • Maintain accurate, up-to-date, and complete personnel records
  • Monitor payroll related documentation to ensure accuracy, consistency, and relevance to business
processes
  • Advise employees and managers on the interpretation of payroll remittances, compensation and benefit
programs, and other payroll related concerns
  • Ensure compliance with employer\xe2\x80\x99s payroll legislation
  • Provide outstanding customer service to employees in person, phone and via email
  • Maintain payroll information and related records systems in compliance with applicable legislation
  • Stay abreast on compliance requirements and industry best practices; recommend changes or modifications
to existing payroll procedures to remain in compliance; and adopt best practices where feasible
  • Interact with employees and respond to their inquiries in a calm, courteous and efficient manner
  • Attend ongoing HR meetings as scheduled
  • Other duties as assigned


Qualifications:
  • Education
o High School Diploma
o Academic degree is preferred, but not required
  • Skills and abilities
o Canadian Payroll Association certification or pursuing the Payroll Compliance Practitioner (PCP)
professional designation would be preferred, but not required
o Strong knowledge of federal and provincial (BC / AB) Employment Standards
o Ability to prioritize and be detail-oriented
o Ability to work individually as well as part of a team
o Demonstrated time management skills
o High flexibility with strong interpersonal skills to work effectively in a diverse environment
o Knowledge of and exposure to a range of payroll activities, including some of the following:
compensation and benefits, employee relations, and employee communications
o Strong sense of ethics and the ability to handle sensitive or private information with tact and
discretion

  • Experience
o Minimum 3 years\xe2\x80\x99 full cycle payroll and benefits administration experience
o Experience in Transportation, Warehouse or Logistics industry preferred

  • Compensation will be based on skills and experience; and
  • Complete Group Health plan & RRSP plan
