Key Responsibilities
As the Payroll and Benefit Specialist, you will ensure accurate and timely processing of payroll and benefits, directly impacting employee satisfaction and operational excellence. Your responsibilities will include:
Payroll Administration:
Administer bi-weekly payroll for 450 hourly and salaried employees in multiple provinces/states.
Maintain compliance with all applicable legislation while ensuring timely remittances, reconciliations, and reporting.
Benefits & Pension Coordination:
Administer group benefit and retirement programs, including enrollment, changes, and terminations.
Act as the first point of contact for employee inquiries related to benefits, providing clear and timely support.
Process Improvement & Reporting:
Identify opportunities for payroll and benefits process optimization and support implementation of best practices.
Prepare and analyze reports related to payroll, benefits costs, headcount, and compliance for internal stakeholders.
Collaboration & Support:
Partner with HR and Finance teams to ensure accurate data flow and alignment across systems.
Support audits, year-end processing, and ad hoc projects that contribute to departmental and organizational goals.
Qualifications
To succeed in this role, candidates should demonstrate the following:
Education & Experience:
A diploma or degree in Accounting, Human Resources, or a related field is preferred.
3-5 years of experience in a payroll and benefits administration role, preferably within a multi-jurisdictional environment.
Technical Skills:
Proficiency with payroll and Workday system.
Solid understanding of employment standards, tax regulations, and benefit administration in both Canada and the U.S. is a strong asset.
Key Competencies:
Strong attention to detail with the ability to manage confidential information with integrity.
Excellent organizational and time management skills, with a proactive approach to troubleshooting and continuous improvement.
