North (This is a hybrid position - the successful applicant must be comfortable working on campus at minimum three (3) days per week.)

Salary:

Payband I Salary Range: $40.39 - $46.64


Starting Salary: $40.39


Progression through the payband is in accordance with the increments in the payband as outline in the Full-Time Support Staff Collective Agreement based on actual service in the payband.

About the Pathways Program Advisor role:




Reporting to the Manager, Pathway Programs, the Pathways Programs Advisor provides academic pathways advising to community learners and students involved in the Academic Upgrading program (AU). Primary responsibilities include working closely with individual students, offering personalized support to enhance their academic success and overall well-being. The advisor conducts one-on-one meetings, listen to students' concerns, serve as a resource for information, and provide guidance on course selection, academic planning, and goal setting.




The incumbent organizes workshops, study groups, and other initiatives aimed at improving students' study skills, time management, and academic performance. You will also assist in the development of resources and materials to support student learning.




Participation in department wide student support initiatives, recruitment events on and off campus and meetings with other Advisors and Program Coordinators on a regular basis is also required. This role will primarily work out of the North campus, however occasional travel offsite and between Humber's three campuses will be required.

Education:




Two-year diploma or degree in a field related to education, counseling, or social and community services.

Experience/Skills:




A minimum of three years' experience assessing and advising clients in an educational or social and community services environment is required.


Experience working with diverse student populations, including adult learners and individuals with various academic backgrounds.


Strong interpersonal and communication skills, with the ability to establish rapport and build trusting relationships with students.


Knowledge of academic advising principles and best practices in student success strategies.


A commitment to equity, diversity, and inclusion in higher education.


Other qualifications include demonstrated ability to listen, empathize, problem solve, exercise good judgment, work with interruptions, and deal with conflicts.


Administrative and document tracking skills, attention to detail and accuracy.


Strong digital fluency and computer skills (MS Office, Experience with Banner and Blackboard would be an asset.
