Are YOU our next Pathology Assistant?

We\'re looking for a Pathology Assistant to join our Histology team in Brampton, Ontario. You will be responsible for delivering in a timely manner the highest level of clinical and scientific quality to everyone we serve with a variety of testing using the latest technology. Your contributions will make a difference- the anatomic pathology support services you deliver will greatly impact the downstream solutions and treatment critical to saving someone\'s life. This is a permanent, full-time position working on evening shift - Monday to Friday, 1:00pm to 9:00pm.

How YOU will make a difference:

\xc2\xb7 Perform gross examinations of surgical specimen, selects, dissects and prepare tissue sections for further processing and examination

\xc2\xb7 Performs embedding of tissue in tissue block

\xc2\xb7 Provide accurate and efficient gross descriptions and documenting gross findings in accordance with laboratory manuals procedures and protocols

\xc2\xb7 Review clinical history provided

\xc2\xb7 Use positive patient identification to ensure that all requisitions and worksheets (electronic or paper), specimens, portions are traceable

\xc2\xb7 Set up and operate laboratory equipment in preparation for specimen examinations

\xc2\xb7 Load tissue processors in accordance with defined SOPs and tracking procedures

\xc2\xb7 Maintain accurate records and documentation for activities in their area

\xc2\xb7 Open, separate, number and arrange specimens for laboratory examination and trace results

\xc2\xb7 Maintain simple laboratory records and inventory for supplies and reagents

\xc2\xb7 Maintain laboratory equipment and supplies by cleaning and maintaining quality assurance records

\xc2\xb7 Maintain a clean and sanitary work area in accordance with standard laboratory practice and procedures

\xc2\xb7 Participate in all quality assurance programs and ensures company and Ministry of Health guidelines are observed

\xc2\xb7 Maintain knowledge of current policies and procedures in their assigned work area; complete action items, read work-related emails, attend staff meetings, stay informed, etc.

\xc2\xb7 Use protective devices or clothing that is required to be used or worn to ensure safety

\xc2\xb7 Report to manager/senior the absence of or defect in any equipment, protective device or hazard of which the employee is aware and which may endanger oneself or another employee

\xc2\xb7 Perform other duties as required

What YOU bring to the role:

\xc2\xb7 Knowledge of Histology

\xc2\xb7 Knowledge of Medical terminology and Gross Anatomy and dissection techniques

\xc2\xb7 Strong knowledge of Microanatomy

\xc2\xb7 Graduate of an approved Laboratory Sciences program or equivalent

\xc2\xb7 Bachelor of Science in Biology or equivalent education directly related to the duties and responsibilities specified

\xc2\xb7 Proven excellence working in team environment, strong interpersonal and communication skills and professionalism

\xc2\xb7 CAP certification is beneficial

\xc2\xb7 Excellent computer skills

\xc2\xb7 Ability to prioritize specimens for processing

\xc2\xb7 Proven ability to perform duties independently or as a team member with high degree of motivation

\xc2\xb7 Demonstrated problem solving skills, able to exercise independent judgment within scope of practice

\xc2\xb7 Demonstrated commitment to professional self- development

\xc2\xb7 Ability to multi- task and perform under pressure while ensuring the integrity of the test results in a fast paced environment

\xc2\xb7 Long periods of concentration required

Working Conditions

\xc2\xb7 Medical laboratory environment

\xc2\xb7 Perform duties in stationary standing/sitting positions with repetitive fine motor movement of hands

\xc2\xb7 High visual requirements

\xc2\xb7 Ability to lift up to 30 lbs. (pounds)

\xc2\xb7 Exposure to biohazard materials and noise

\xc2\xb7 Shift work required

\xc2\xb7 Possible exposure to chemicals, solvents and radioactive materials
