About the Opportunity


Cape Breton Regional Hospital (CBRH), Department of Pathology and Laboratory Medicine, is seeking a full-time pathologist to join the established medical/scientific department team of five. Annually, the department handles over 15,000 surgical pathology specimens, 35-40 autopsies, and 16,000 cytopathology specimens. The successful candidate will undertake clinical responsibilities in these services and will have the opportunity to oversee the clinical laboratories at CBRH and in surrounding communities.CBRH opened its door to patients in 1995. Now, it is the second largest acute care facility in Nova Scotia that serves more than 200,000 patients a year. It is part of a four hospital complex that also includes Glace Bay, New Waterford Consolidated, and Northside General Hospitals.Located in the historic town of Sydney, CBRH has 162 acute care beds, 36 emergency beds, 23 intermediate and critical care beds, 40 maternal child beds, 52 mental health and addiction beds, and nine palliative care beds. The hospital provides a range of primary and secondary services through in-patient, outpatient, and community-based programs. Services:

  • work a full scope of practice as a pathologist
  • perform autopsies and biopsies
  • assess pathology speciments and cytopathology speciments


Expected Hours


  • full-time


Qualifications


  • all applicants must be eligible for licensure with the College of Physicians and Surgeons of Nova Scotia (CPSNS)
  • all specialists must be eligible for certification with the Royal College of Physicians and Surgeons of Canada (RCPSC)
  • membership with the Canadian Medical Protective Association (CMPA)
  • Canadian certification in either anatomical or general pathology is considered an asset
