About You
You are a recent (<5 years) graduate in engineering, physics, computer science, or life sciences who is looking to pursue a rewarding and challenging career as a patent agent. You are passionate about helping clients advance innovation while learning the finer points of patent drafting, prosecution, and how to effectively design and implement an IP strategy. You want a challenging career experience that draws upon all your background, knowledge, and endless desire to learn and are interested in taking the necessary patent courses towards the goal of becoming a certified patent agent. This role will report into the Intellectual Property business unit and will be based primarily from home with occasional requirements to be in office.
Key Responsibilities
Drafting patent applications
Providing patent prosecution support
Developing and implementing IP strategies for our clients
Working in collaboration with external counsel on activities as appropriate
Interfacing with clients to generate/filter invention disclosures
Maintaining portfolio databases and rolling budgets
Contributing to work products required for patent litigation
Sourcing new leads and client accounts to manage
Developing business for other Stratford practices and joint opportunities
Other tasks/projects as assigned by the practice lead or your clients
Required Experience
University degree in engineering, physics, computer science, or life sciences
Organized, independent, capable of self-directing your work
Ability to easily grasp complex situations; adapt and learn quickly
Proactive and strategic thinking
Strong written and oral communication skills
Proficient in MS Office 365 (Word, Excel, PPT, Outlook) and Adobe
Leadership competencies
Experience with a variety of IP management software (Foundation IP) and Patent Office web services considered an asset
