About You

You are an experienced and CIPO-registered Patent Agent and are familiar supporting Intellectual Property business solutions for a variety of clients and industries. You have extensive experience guiding clients through the drafting and prosecution of Canadian, US, and foreign patent applications. You have expertise to develop patent portfolios in the life science industry. You have a strong scientific background, at the Ph.D. level, in chemistry or other life sciences fields. You are comfortable designing and implementing an IP strategy, working with various stakeholders at client organizations. You can lead invention mining sessions with R&D teams and extract potentially valuable IP in existing and future products. This role will report into the Intellectual Property business unit and will be based primarily from home with occasional requirements to be in office.

Key Responsibilities

• Drafting and prosecution of patents.
• Advising clients on proactive work to do to maximize value and reduce risk.
• Developing holistic and pragmatic IP strategies based on Stratford IP framework.
• Handling all aspects of IP portfolio creation and development.
• Contributing to work products required for due diligence or patent litigation.
• Expand existing network to source new clients.
• Other tasks/projects as assigned by the practice lead or your clients.

Desired Skills and Experience

• Master\xe2\x80\x99s degree or higher in a life science related field.
• Registered Patent Agent or Attorney before CIPO or USPTO; USPTO and CIPO preferred with 5+ years of experience.
• Proactive and strategic thinking.
• Willing to mentor CIPO patent agent trainees in various industries preferred.
• Ability to bring clients with you to Stratford, a network of relevant contacts.
• BD/Sales experience.
• Proficient at multitasking.
• Highly organized, self-motivated, versatile and efficient.
• Outstanding writing and analytical skills are essential.
• Ability to speak comfortably with decision makers.
• Adaptable to a variety of duties.
• Proficient in MS Office.
• Independent, capable of self-directing your work.
