Passenger Vehicle Driver

Job Description

This position is the face of our organization, transporting passengers to destinations throughout Nova Scotia. For this position, you will drive our vehicles - both wheelchair accessible vans and cars, depending on the needs of our passengers.

You are a friendly, community-minded person that enjoys helping others and spending time behind the wheel. You will be scheduled to pick up passengers, take them to appointments, classes, workplaces or personal destinations and help make our community more accessible to people facing transportation barriers.

Some early morning, evening and weekend work is required.

Qualifications:



Valid Class 4 driver's license (or willing to get one) At least 7 years of driving experience Current, clean driving record with Driver's Abstract obtained from Access Nova Scotia Criminal Record and Vulnerable Sector checks No health conditions that may impair ability to drive safely (vision, hearing, perception, reflexes, certain medications, etc.). A medical check must be completed annually. Able to relate to people: patient and empathetic with good listening and communication skills Be punctual and dependable in picking up the passenger at the scheduled time Able to work independently and as part of a team Dress appropriately, wearing East Hants Community Rider branded clothing Attend required training/orientation courses and team meetings, as required Familiar with tablets and phones and able to use them for navigation and email WHMIS and First Aid training is considered an asset

Roles and Responsibilities:



Obey all traffic rules and laws and drive safely at all times Complete all assigned checks and forms Ensure that passengers are seated properly, wearing a seat belt and wheelchairs/scooters are secured at all times Receive schedule details from Dispatch by email, phone or tablet Transport passengers to pre-determined locations as scheduled by Dispatch Inform Dispatch of any changes to ability to drive passengers Inform Dispatch immediately of any concerns or special needs of a passenger Ensure confidentiality in all interactions with passengers Keep the assigned vehicle clean, inside and out Record mileage and submit completed record forms to Dispatch for reimbursement Immediately report incidents, accidents or concerns to Dispatch Inform Dispatch of any changes in address or phone numbers

Hours of Work:



Hours can range from 0 to 35 hours per week for passenger vehicle drivers, depending on passenger volumes and vehicle availability. Some early morning, evening and weekend work is required
