Answer phone and respond to e-mails for passenger reservations, cancellations, inquiries, etc.;
Accurately and efficiently input passenger reservations into computerized dispatch system;
Communicate any schedule changes, relevant information to drivers via 2-way radio or phone;
Manage minor operational issues such as vehicle breakdowns, employee illness;
When required, close and secure office at end of office hours, turn phone over to after-hours call service;
Greet and assist in-person inquiries at office;
Accurately sign drivers out at shifts end, collect cash/tickets, etc;
Any other duties as required and directed by Kingston Access Services.
Qualifications:
Previous dispatching experience is an asset (experience in taxi, school bus, transit, etc and/or route scheduling of drivers is a definite asset);
Strong computer skills, experience with Microsoft Office, ability to learn new programs;
Excellent knowledge of City of Kingston streets is a definite asset;
Must possess excellent verbal and written communication skills for interacting with co-workers and customers, ability to adapt communication style to suit a wide audience with differing abilities;
Must have attention to detail, be adaptable to changes, ability to multi-task, prioritize tasks, and work under pressure;
Ability to work well both individually and in a team environment, and be self-motivated;
Minimum high-school diploma or equivalent;
Mandatory upon hire:
a) A satisfactory criminal background check with vulnerable sector check; and
b) Proof of having received a minimum of two approved vaccinations against Covid-19. People are considered fully vaccinated after receiving the full series of a Covid-19 vaccine or combination of covid-19 vaccines approved by World Health Organization (e.g., two doses of a two-dose vaccine series, or one dose of a single-dose vaccine series) and accepted by the Government of Canada (i.e. Pfizer, Moderna, AstraZeneca, Janssen/Johnson & Johnson); or
- Provide a medical note from a doctor/physician stating the worker is unable to take the vaccine due to medical issues; or
- Demonstrate a legitimate disability or creed (commonly referred to as "religion") in accordance with the Human Rights Code.
Note: Employees who are unable to take the vaccine due to medical issues and/or who are being accommodated under the Human Rights Code may be required to take additional safety measures as determined by Kingston Access Services.
Other:
Ideal candidate will have flexibility for extra hours when available;
Previous experience working with those with disabilities or elderly would be an asset;
Valid Driver's license is an asset.
