About Us



Girls Incorporated of York Region is a registered youth non-profit dedicated to empowering girls and young women in our community to achieve their fullest potential and highest quality of life. We run a wide variety of evidence-based programming for girls and those who identify as female ages 5 - 18 in the York Region community. Through a focus on areas such as relationship building, developing confidence, and enhancing self-esteem, we are empowering girls so that they become the best versions of themselves and empowered, productive and contributing members of society.



Facilitate programs and activities throughout York Region in accordance with the Girls Inc. philosophy across diverse cultural, social, and educational program areas. Programming should be engaging, high energy and demonstrate depth in the content area while encouraging girls to take risks and master physical, intellectual, and emotional challenges.

Responsibilities



- Work both independantly and alongside full-time staff/Program Leaders to implement diverse Girls Inc. of York Region programming for lunch and afterschool programs. Ensure that programming covers a broad range of topics, including STEM, leadership development, media literacy, and economic literacy, with a primary focus on physical wellness.

- Adapt Girls Inc. programming to the needs and abilities of the program participants, the school, and the community.

- Serve as a positive role model for girls. Communicate appropriately and professionally in the spirit of Girls Inc.'s mission, vision, and operating principles. Demonstrate respectful communication, healthy relationships, and positive leadership at all times.

- Provide a space for Girls Inc. program participants where they are safe, respected, and heard by developing appropriate strategies to support youth in managing their behaviour.

- Provide a healthy snack to all participants within the program guidelines, accommodating all dietary restrictions.

- Follow all Girls Inc. and YRDSB policies and protocols; ensure program participants do the same.

- Communicate regularly with parents/guardians and family members, informing them of girls' achievements and challenges. Update/include Program Leader and/or Executive Director on these communications.

- Report accidents and incidents as they occur to staff supervisors/Program Leaders.

- Collect and prepare program equipment and supplies from the Girls Inc. office, as needed.

- Assist with fundraising efforts, including attending events when necessary.

- Complete other duties as assigned.

Qualifications



- Completed Diploma or Degree (OR more than 50% completed post secondary education) in Child and Youth Education, Early Childhood Education, Social Service Worker, BSW/MSW, Teachers College, and related fields OR equivalent experience.

- 1+ years of experience working with youth ages 5+ in a youth program setting (i.e. after-school program, summer camp, etc.)

- A natural love of working with children and youth.

- Flexibility to work both midday and afternoons/evenings. Occasional weekend shifts may be required.

- Strong ability to communicate effectively orally and in writing with all levels of staff, the public, and program participants while maintaining objectivity.

- Great problem-solving abilities, with the ability to be flexible and to think on your feet.

- The ability to work as a team member within a dynamic, complex environment, and organize time and workloads effectively.

First Aid Certification and Vulnerable Sector Check is required.

Access to a personal vehicle and the ability to travel throughout York Region is required.



- An understanding of the barriers that face women in today's society and how to overcome them is an asset.

- Familiarity with program planning and implementation is an asset.

Job Type: Part-time

Pay: From $22.00 per hour
