Good Shepherd Ministries provides food, shelter, clothing, medical care, housing services, and pre-and-post addiction treatment services for people struggling with poverty and homelessness.

Services are provided free of charge and without distinction to anyone in need. Services are available 365 days a year.

We are currently accepting applications for two (2) Part-Time Janitors.

Role Summary:

Reporting to the Manager, DARE Program, the Janitor enhances the dignity and quality of life of Good Shepherd Centre clients by performing the housekeeping tasks required to maintain a clean and welcoming environment.

Responsibilities for this position include the following:

Observe all health and safety rules and regulations and to work in a manner that minimizes risk to yourself, clients, co-workers and others as well as to the property of Good Shepherd Ministries. To perform your job responsibilities in accordance with the Occupational Health and Safety Policies and the Occupational Health and Safety Act. Comply with the established rules of operation, procedures, policies and code of conduct. Comply with work scheduling and attendance requirements according to policy and practices. Respond to clients, co-workers, visitors and volunteers in a hospitable, respectful and professional manner. Perform all necessary janitorial/housekeeping tasks to the required standard and to maintain these standard within assigned areas. Clean Janitor/Housekeeping storage areas as required. Clean all common areas including windows, floors, furniture and fixtures on a daily basis. Clean all washroom areas including toilets, urinals, sinks and showers on a daily basis, using the detergents and protective equipment as instructed. Maintain an adequate supply of toilet tissue, soap and towels in the above areas. Make beds with clean linen and removes any used, soiled, linen to laundry. Cubicles must be ready to receive new clients promptly each day. Perform occasional or specific janitorial/housekeeping tasks as required. Ensure the safe and correct use of cleaning materials and equipment and their safe storage. Maintain and properly store supplies and equipment used in janitorial/housekeeping tasks. Clean and safely store equipment used and to report any discrepancies or needed repairs. Maintain and safely store adequate amount of cleaning supplies and to report any discrepancies. Dispose of garbage and recyclables as required. Including preparation for curb side collection. Assist clients in the removal of personal belongings when vacating the premises. Assist with housekeeping deliveries or donations as required. Supervise volunteers assigned to assist the Janitor, Maintain the Health and Safety standards including WHIMIS at all times. Maintain the confidentiality and ethical standards of Good Shepherd Ministries all times. To perform any other tasks as required or as assigned from time to time by the Manager, DARE Program, or designate.

Skill, Nature and Scope



Actively practices the Mission, Vision, and Values of Good Shepherd Ministries. A recognized course in Janitorial/Housekeeping duties or equivalent work experience. An ability to appreciate the complexity and demands of 'hard to serve' individuals from diverse backgrounds. Organizational skills. Relevant work experience. The ability to prioritize work overload is important. CPR First Aid Certificates acquired through a recognized course. Knowledge of WHIMIS requirements and basic understanding of safety precautions. Excellent written communication and interpersonal skills to maintain team work with the ability to communicate effectively with individuals from diverse backgrounds. Legally eligible to work in Canada.
