HOSTESS POSITION You are the face of the restaurant, as you are the first person our customers will encounter. Customers are to be greeted in a friendly manner. Your biggest priority is to reduce the line up as quickly as possible. This position also supervises the bus staff and coordinates with them on an on-going basis throughout the shift. Duties Include: - Greeting Customers: greet customers with a smile & ask for their party number; - Seating Customers: seat customers or advise them that there is a wait time & add their name to the list; - Estimating Wait Times: guessing wait time is very difficult, you must always be looking at tables to try & determine how many tables are ready to leave & then estimate a wait time; - Communicating: communicate to busser the next few tables needed & your plan on how they will be seated; o Always advise customers of your plan (i.e. finding out preferences); - Ensuring Servers Do Not Get Slammed: be mindful of where customers are being sat & that they are being spread equally between sections. o When this is not possible & you have sat more than two tables in a section back to back, then try to get water & perhaps drinks at that table (this can be done by you or the busser); - Handing Out Menus & Advising Customers of Specials: when you seat people spread out the menus (& point out the liquor menu) & advise them to look at special (it is not your job to explain them) & if there are children in the party bring them a colour sheet & crayons; - Clearing/Cleaning/Setting Tables &/or Taking Payments: if time permits you may assist the busser &/or help with payments in order to reduce the lineup; - Supervising Busser: ensure busser end duties are also completed as you are in charge of the busser; - Other related duties as requested. End of Shift: - At end of shift ensure all creamers are removed & refilled, all tables are cleaned & re-set, & all other items on table are stocked properly by the busser or yourself; - Refer to Front Cleaning Dutiesor consult with senior staff member if anything needs to be done prior to the end of your shift; - Do not leave your shift until your jobs are done; o Shift times may be extended or shortened depending on the need.
