Part-Time Estimator - Insulation and Drywall Construction

This is a fixed Contract leading into a full time permanent:
As a Junior Estimator with 1 to 2 years of experience in insulation and drywall construction, you are involved in assisting senior estimators and project managers with preparing detailed cost estimates for commercial, residential, and industrial projects. You will analyze project plans and specifications, source materials and labor costs, and develop accurate quotes to ensure projects remain on budget and are completed on time.
Key Responsibilities:
Project Assessment
: Review construction drawings, specifications, and contract documents to determine project requirements, scope, and materials needed for drywall and insulation installations.
Cost Estimating
: Estimate material, labor, and equipment costs for insulation and drywall projects. Calculate quantities and prepare itemized estimates for various types of insulation (spray foam, batt, rigid foam) and drywall systems.
Vendor & Subcontractor Coordination
: Contact suppliers and subcontractors to obtain pricing and availability for materials and services. Ensure accurate cost comparisons for best pricing.
Preparation of Estimates
: Assist in preparing and presenting estimates, quotes, and proposals for potential projects. Work under the guidance of senior estimators to refine and finalize cost calculations.
Site Visits
: Occasionally visit job sites to assess conditions, take measurements, and ensure estimates are accurate based on site-specific factors.
Client Communication
: Communicate with clients, architects, contractors, and project managers to clarify project details and resolve any discrepancies in scope or estimates.
Project Tracking
: Monitor ongoing projects to track budget adherence and assist in managing change orders and cost adjustments as the project progresses.
Software Usage
: Utilize estimating software and spreadsheets to create and manage cost estimates. Ensure all documentation is organized and accurate.
Skills & Qualifications:
Experience
: 2 to 3 years of estimating experience in insulation and drywall, with a solid understanding of construction processes, materials, and industry standards.
Knowledge of Insulation & Drywall Systems
: Familiarity with different types of insulation materials (e.g., spray foam, fiberglass, mineral wool, rigid foam) and drywall systems (e.g., standard drywall, moisture-resistant boards).
Attention to Detail
: Strong ability to analyze and assess project details and provide accurate estimates that account for all materials, labor, and potential project challenges.
Communication
: Strong written and verbal communication skills to collaborate effectively with clients, vendors, and team members.
Technical Skills
: Proficient in the use of estimating software and Microsoft Excel. Familiarity with construction management tools is a plus.
Problem-Solving
: Ability to identify potential issues with project costs or specifications and work proactively to find solutions.
Time Management
: Ability to prioritize tasks and meet deadlines in a fast-paced environment.
Education & Certification
:
A background in construction management, civil engineering, or a related field is preferred.
Certification or training in estimating, construction, or a related field (e.g., ASPE - American Society of Professional Estimators) is an asset but not required.
As a Junior Estimator with this level of experience, you would typically support senior team members in various estimating functions while continuing to develop your technical skills and industry knowledge to take on more responsibility in estimating and project management over time.
