Job Summary & Key Responsibilities
The part-time academic will be responsible for teaching MARI 4600, "Aquaculture Modeling" during the 2025 Fall Term. The course teaches a collection of tools for the sustainable utilization of aquatic resources. Emphasis is on bilateral interactions between aquaculture and the environment. Topics include water/sediment/biota variability, carrying capacity, invasive species, habitat destruction/creation, ecosystem functions/services, climate changes, etc. Tools include data analysis/modelling/visualization/mapping using Python(TM) (prior programming experience is not required).
Responsibilities include all aspects of teaching and administering the course, including lectures and labs, test preparation, and evaluation of tests and reports, Brightspace administration, handling student issues, submitting grades, hiring/supervising TA's, etc. In addition, the part-time academic should expect to spend considerable time before and after the official course dates preparing and marking. Due to operational requirements, the successful applicant is required to work in-person on campus, or out on field trips if appropriate. This position reports to the Chair of the department.
Qualifications/Requirements of Position
A graduate degree in Biology or related field and research experience directly related to the topic of the course. Preference will be given to candidates possessing a Ph.D. and/or previous university teaching experience in the subject of the course. Applications should include a letter, up-to-date C.V., and first-time applicants should provide evidence of teaching effectiveness (such as summary of relevant course evaluations) and must provide the names of two references.
