Community Living Centres is seeking experienced staff to support individuals with disabilities living in the community. We operate small option homes in Halifax & Dartmouth, and work with people in their own homes in Halifax, Dartmouth & Sackville. Applicants should be prepared to travel between locations throughout HRM. Our goal is that each of our residents live as full and fulfilling a life as they are able, and that staff are engaged to do with and for the individuals in all aspect of their daily lives.
Successful applicants must have two years work experience in the disability support field, or equal relevant work experience, up to date first aid & CPR, recent criminal records check with vulnerable sectors search, up to date training in food safety, and be able to provide proof of full covid-19 vaccination.
Many of our residents live with psychiatric disability, therefore knowledge and experience with psychiatric illness is a must. Assets include having a vehicle with two million dollar liability insurance, and having completed the provincial core-competencies as outlined by the Department of Community Services for providers under the Disability Support Program.
Being comfortable and knowledgeable with teaching and providing support in all areas of daily living is a requirement. This includes meal preparation, menu planning, grocery shopping, housekeeping, personal care assistance, budgeting, public transportation assistance, clothing maintenance and shopping. Experience and knowledge of tenancy is also an asset, such as paying bills and appropriate communication with superintendents and neighbours.
Shifts in our homes are 4-10 hours depending on location, and include all hours of the day and night. Being available for weekdays, evenings, overnight awakes, overnight sleeps, and weekend hours is an expectation. Shifts in apartments are typically 2-3 hours, while some are up to 6 hours. We are currently seeking part time staff for locations in Central Dartmouth and the Woodlawn and North End area of Dartmouth, as well as North End Halifax, Fairview and Lower Sackville.

• Maintain a clean and safe environment by performing light housekeeping tasks.
• Engage residents in meaningful activities and provide companionship.
• Ensure compliance with safety protocols, including maintaining First Aid Certification.
