The Construction Assistant for Habitat for Humanity Sarnia/Lambton is responsible for providing general labour support primarily to the affiliate's home-build program and secondarily to the Habitat Handyman program.
REPORTS TO:
This position is a direct report of the Director of Build Services but accepts front line supervision and direction from the Construction Supervisor, the Handyman
EDUCATION & EXPERIENCE
: The incumbent to this position will have a general knowledge of home construction, renovation or general construction environment or the equivalent. Candidates require, at minimum, a Grade 12 high school diploma. A skilled Trade Certificate in a related construction field or the equivalent is preferable but not a mandatory requirement. Incumbent must be willing to provide proof of physical fitness. A valid driving licence and a clean driver abstract are additional requirements. Incumbent should be able to provide evidence of the ability to thrive and excel in a fast-paced, team-driven environment.
SCOPE OF COMMUNICATIONS:
Given that the position will require the incumbent to have close contact and communications with all manner of volunteer stakeholders, respectful, tactful and appropriate personal interaction/communication skills are critical. The incumbent must be able to receive, and act upon in a timely manner, both direction and constructive, supportive criticism. Further, there must be absolute recognition and respect for the critical role that the affiliate's volunteer workforce plays in the continued excellence of construction operations.
DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITES
:
Acting on direction from either the Director of Build Services or the Handyman Supervisor (as appropriate), provides any such general labour as may be required to support construction or home renovation activities.
Recognizes the intrinsic value of our volunteer workforce and, within the scope of job duties and responsibilities, undertakes to ensure that each volunteer experience is valuable and meaningful
Undertakes all such established health and safety processes, policies and protocols as may pertain to the completion of duties.

Consistently demonstrates a bias for safe work and safe workplace practices. Acts as an example to build volunteers in this regard. Gently and respectfully corrects volunteer behavior to ensure a safe work environment or, as appropriate, immediately reports unaddressed health and safety concerns to the appropriate Supervisor.
Completes such documents, forms or inspections as are required from time to time by the appropriate Supervisor.
Complies with all Habitat for Humanity policies and procedures relative to Health & Safety or Human Resources.
Undertakes any other duties or responsibilities as may be required by the Director of Build Services from time to time.
