Reporting to the Supervisor of Parks and Recreation, the Parks and Recreation Operator performs routine maintenance on all recreational facilities and municipal parkland properties including the ability to operate the associated equipment, the materials and methods used in those operations.
DUTIES:
Performs general labour, operation, maintenance, and support of recreation facilities including ice surface, ball diamonds, fields, sport courts, parks, playgrounds, trails, splashpad, skate park, marinas, and cemeteries
Maintains ice and operates ice resurfacer during ice season
Maintains seasonal grass, landscaping, and flowers maintenance
Performs facility repairs, event setup/takedown, and janitorial duties
Performs regular maintenance on all departmental equipment; reports repairs required to equipment and/or facilities
Completes daily work documents and other administrative documents including time sheets, and incident reports
In the event of emergency, safely evacuates patrons of the arena and community centre
Responds positively and effectively to customer inquiries and/or concerns
Other duties as assigned
QUALIFICATIONS:
Completion of OSSD. A post-secondary diploma/degree in Sport and Recreation Management, Recreation and Leisure, Outdoor Recreation, Leisure Studies, or a related field considered an asset
Basic refrigeration training preferred. Certified Ice Technician (CIT) and/or Certified Parks Technician (CPT) considered an asset
Experience working in arena operations
Experience in operation and maintenance of the ice plant and resurfacing equipment, landscaping equipment and basic understanding of preventative maintenance considered an asset
Ability to work independently with minimal, on-site supervision, and as part of a team
Proven ability to work cooperatively and establish good relations with coworkers and the public at large, demonstrating effective customer service and communications skills
Proven ability to take initiative and apply considerable ingenuity and practical knowledge to tasks
Must be able to perform work in accordance withs sound safety practices and procedures; must be able to obtain and maintain valid First Aid/CPR certificate
Flexibility to be available for emergency call-ins
Valid Class G license and clear criminal background check required
HOURS OF WORK
:
40 hours/week
Hours based on seasonal needs which may include days, evenings, weekends and/or holidays on rotational shifts
TOTAL COMPENSATION PACKAGE INCLUDES:
Pay rate: CUPE Grade 11 ($27.55 - $33.61/hour)
Enrolment in OMERS pension plan (optional)
