Parks Caretaker Position Description
Under the general direction of the Lucien Lake Regional Park Authority Board, the Parks Caretaker is responsible for overseeing the day-to-day supervision, operation and maintenance of the Regional Park in accordance with approved Board operation policy or resolutions.
Primary Duties
1. Manage, schedule and supervise all employees employed by the Board including reviewing and authorizing all staff time sheets in advance of payroll processing.
2. Attend Regional Park Board Meetings and provide a monthly written report of activities and subjects of mutual concern.
3. Deal with the public in a respectful manner when problems arise and address issues as required.
4. Engage with park users to gather feedback and identify ways to improve the park.
5. Monitor bookings and site condition and activity.
6. Order, receive and safeguard all cleaning and paper supplies.
7. Ensure the Park is kept neat and clean at all times which includes: cutting and trimming all grassy areas, water flower pots and beds, dig-up or spray to control weeds in playground areas, remove any dead trees in public areas, keep park buildings in good repair.
8. Ensure all washroom facilities are cleaned as per schedule and replenish supplies as needed.
9. Haul all garbage to the garbage receptacle on a daily basis.
10. Ensure that the fish cleaning station is cleaned daily.
11. Rake beach area and shoreline every other day from mid-June until the end of August and every day during swimming lessons.
12. Cleaning and maintaining all camping sites (excluding seasonal sites unless requested). This includes raking of all sites, all garbage collected, fire pits cleaned out, deadfall cleared, grass trimmed as needed after each camper leaves the site
13. Identify and make recommendations regarding cost reduction opportunities through changes.
14. Work with the board to ensure that measurable yearly operating budgets and capital targets are met.
15. Deal effectively with employee related matters to maintain positive employee morale and engagement.
16. Assist with security issues which may arise. Ensure proper security and safety is maintained by enforcing quiet times (11 p.m. - 7 a.m.), speed limits, gate lock-up (open 7 a.m., close 11 p.m.) and to designate security on day's off.
17. Operate and maintain park equipment and purchasing parts and supplies required for equipment.
18. Verify all day-to-day activities are in compliance with all safety, environmental and regulatory standards.
19. Oversee the application of the safety in day-to-day activities and ensure all on site employees and contractors receive orientation and are compliant with OHS standards and regulations.
20. Provide guidance and mentorship to staff and be responsible for ensuring patron safety and security.
21. Ensuring all guests follow park rules.
22. Ensure the park is prepared for opening and year-end closure; This includes but not limited to:
a. Mini golf is cleaned;
b. Shop clean and in good order;
c. Garbage cans are picked up and put away;
d. Waterlines blown out;
e. All buildings secure;
f. Place and secure fishing and swimming docks in the spring; and
g. Ensure docks are pulled to shore and safely stored at park closure.
23. Other duties as may be assigned by the Board from time to time.
Experience & Qualifications
The incumbent shall have a minimum:
1. Previous related experience in a similar position ideally in a supervisory capacity.
2. Previous experience in dealing with matters related to occupational health and safety.
3. Demonstrated ability to communicate effectively both orally and in writing.
4. Demonstrated ability to work with a minimum of supervision, expedite and resolve issues.
5. Valid Class 5 Saskatchewan Driver's License.
6. Knowledge of safety working standards and regulations.
7. Criminal records check and Child Abuse Registry Check is required.
8. Be physically capable of performing the duties of this position.
9. Valid First Aid/CPR certification.
