NCNS Parenting Journey Facilitator



A Native Advocacy Representative Organization representing, promoting and advancing the self-governing institutions and services of the off-reserve Aboriginal/Mi'kmaq of Nova Scotia, "Going Forward To A Better Future." To further the objective of improving the social, cultural, educational and employment situation of the rural, urban, off-reserve Aboriginal Peoples of Nova Scotia.



POSITION TITLE: NCNS Parenting Journey Facilitator



LOCATION SETTING: Truro, Nova Scotia





EMPLOYMENT ROLE:



The Parenting Journey Facilitator will ensure a family centered and strength-based program that is directed at establishing a trusting relationship with Aboriginal families within rural and urban areas of the province of Nova Scotia. The Parenting Journey Facilitator will ultimately assist in strengthening the parent-child relationship and will assist parents in improving their skills to optimize the home environment by enhancing family support systems and increasing the family's ability to problem solve and advocate for themselves and their children. The Parenting Journey Facilitator will also provide supportive services and referral to Aboriginal families, their children to improve their access and knowledge of services/programs available to them.



The Parenting Journey Facilitator will work internally as part of the Native Council of Nova Scotia's Caring Connections team, with linked agencies of our services as well as with partners and volunteers linked to our services to the rural, urban, off-reserve Aboriginal target group. The Outreach Support Worker is expected to work closely with community members and local, municipal and provincial agencies.



KNOWLEDGE & SKILLS REQUIRED:


Related combination of work experience/education applicable to Human Services. Case Management experience or experience working with a caseload. Experience in successfully working with infants, children, youth, and their families. Community resource awareness. Above average writing, organizational and communication skills. Strong interpersonal skills and the ability to relate to individuals whose value systems and behaviors may differ from what would be expected. Past work experience through employment or volunteer that demonstrates supportive services & activities. Possess a strong desire to help others, patience and understanding will be a highly valued characteristic. Must have a valid driver's license and access to reliable transportation. Must be able to provide a recent criminal record check and child abuse registry check. Computer literate, including but not limited to the use and application of software used to develop professional presentations. Relevant education, training and work experience in a similar role would be considered an asset.




Salary Range: negotiable



Working Hours: Monday to Friday 8:30 am to 4:30 pm with some extended hours as needed



Holiday, vacations, and other employment benefits as per office policy and procedure of NCNS
