Purpose of the Role



The Parent Wellness Worker supports the mental, emotional, and relational well-being of caregivers with children and youth receiving services through CYMS. Rooted in Omushkego values of family interdependence and healing, this role promotes caregiver stability, connection, and confidence. Services are responsive to stress, grief, trauma, and overwhelm that may impact parenting capacity, with a focus on prevention, healing, and community-based restoration.


This position works alongside prevention, clinical, and protection teams to reduce the risk of crisis and create safe, supportive environments for both children and their caregivers.

Core Responsibilities



1. Relational and Community Engagement



Establish trust-based relationships with parents, grandparents, kin, and caregivers navigating parenting stress Act as a culturally safe ally who listens, holds space, and responds to caregivers' mental, emotional, and spiritual needs Partner with community healers, Elders, and First Nations mental health workers to offer culturally grounded wellness options

2. Program-Specific Responsibilities



Support caregivers experiencing grief, burnout, isolation, or parenting overwhelm through individual sessions, home visits, or group circles Co-develop care and safety plans that focus on parenting strength, family preservation, and self-regulation Deliver or co-facilitate workshops on stress management, cultural parenting practices, self-care, and relational repair Coordinate access to internal services (clinical, family support, early intervention) and external referrals (e.g., addiction supports, housing, crisis response) Maintain clear, confidential documentation in agency systems including CPIN and prevention records

3. Legal and Ethical Practice



Support informed consent, boundaries, and culturally guided confidentiality throughout all interactions Recognize and respond to child safety concerns, in accordance with CYFSA and Agency policy Operate from a non-judgmental, harm-reducing, and strength-based perspective at all times

4. Team and Agency Participation



Work closely with prevention, protection, and clinical teams on holistic service planning Participate in team meetings, reflective supervision, and collaborative case discussions Contribute to community wellness gatherings, parenting events, and agency training sessions

Required Qualifications and Experience



Diploma or degree in Social Services, Indigenous Studies, Child and Youth Work, or a related field; or equivalent lived/professional experience Demonstrated experience supporting parents or families through emotional or relational challenges Knowledge of First Nations parenting practices, community wellness, and intergenerational healing models Strong interpersonal, facilitation, and cultural navigation skills
Equivalency will be considered. Lived experience as a parent or caregiver and knowledge of Treaty 9 communities are strong assets.
