In Canada, conversations about death are often delayed until absolutely necessary. Many of us have grown disconnected from the natural process of dying, leaving families and individuals without the tools to navigate end-of-life journeys or support others in grief. While healthcare focuses increasingly on preserving life, the need for compassionate support through death and bereavement has never been more vital.
At Burnaby Hospice Society (BHS), we are dedicated to helping our community navigate the emotional, practical, and social challenges that come with dying, death, and grief. We provide compassionate support at no cost to our clients--because no one should face death or bereavement alone.
We are currently seeking a
Palliative Program Volunteer Coordinator
to join our team. This full-time role is ideal for someone with a background in social services, volunteer coordination, and an understanding--professional or personal--of end-of-life care.
In this role, you will:
Coordinate and support our incredible team of palliative volunteers
Match volunteers with clients and families throughout Burnaby
Respond to service requests and work directly with clients and caregivers
Collaborate with staff to develop and implement new palliative support programming
Work alongside our grief and bereavement team to create educational and supportive resources for the community
Foster partnerships with other hospices, long-term care facilities, and healthcare providers
Help shape the future of palliative programming at BHS
What success looks like:
An increase in the number of clients served
A thriving, well-trained volunteer base delivering compassionate, high-quality care
Creative and effective programming that meets the evolving needs of our community
Strong partnerships and collaborative initiatives across care settings
Services are delivered in a variety of locations, including Burnaby Hospital, St. Michael's Hospice, St. Michael's Centre Extended Care, and in clients' homes or care facilities.
What we offer:
Full-time, 37.5 hours per week
Starting vacation of 3 weeks
Full-time employees are eligible for our extended health and dental benefits, as well as RRSP matching program after 3-month probation
A supportive, values-driven team where your voice and vision will shape the future of our organization
We're looking for someone who is compassionate, collaborative, organized, and ready to make a real difference in people's lives. You'll bring your heart and experience--we'll provide a meaningful role in a supportive and dedicated team.
Must have a valid BC Drivers License, and access to transportation.
