Job Description

POSITION SUMMARY



The

Packaging Technician Leadhand

is responsible for providing

training and guidance to technicians

, and

troubleshooting more complex technical issues

. This role ensures efficient production, adherence to safety and quality standards, and the smooth operation of packaging equipment.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES



Pre-Production Setup



Conduct

pre-production inspections

to ensure all packaging equipment and materials are in optimal condition. Prepare the packaging area by ensuring cleanliness, organization, and availability of necessary materials.

Train team members

on equipment setup, quality checks, and proper handling of packaging materials.

Oversee the setup of conveyors, stacker assemblies, tray formers, glue machines (cartoners), wrappers, printers, metal detectors, case sealers, speed sealers, shrink tunnels, and other packaging equipment.

Configure diverters and bypass conveyors for efficient product routing. Maintain label room inventory and ensure accurate stock levels.

Production Operations



Supervise packaging technicians,

provide hands-on support

, and ensure adherence to safety and efficiency standards. Start and stop

conveyors

at the beginning and end of production, adjusting belt speeds for optimal stacking. Operate, set up, change over, and resolve

complex technical issues

on packaging equipment, including

vertical and horizontal overwrap machines, cartoners, tape sealers, inkjet coders, sandwich creme machines, and label applicators

. Monitor conveyor tracking

after ovens

to ensure seamless workflow. Ensure proper setup and continuous adjustments of

stacker assemblies

throughout production. Assist technicians with

troubleshooting escalated mechanical issues

, coordinating with maintenance teams when necessary.

Post-Production & Maintenance



Oversee

changeovers and shutdown procedures

, ensuring all equipment is cleaned and sanitized properly. Conduct

performance assessments

of packaging equipment and recommend improvements or repairs. Maintain

cleanliness and organization

of the parts room, label room, and equipment storage areas. Report and escalate

major mechanical issues

to supervisors.

Documentation & Compliance



Ensure accurate completion of

production logs, inventory tracking, and equipment maintenance reports

. Adhere to

health and safety regulations, food safety standards, and GMP protocols

. Conduct

on-the-job training

for team members in compliance with standard operating procedures (SOPs). Participate in

continuous improvement initiatives

to enhance packaging efficiency and reduce downtime.

REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS



High school diploma or equivalent Minimum of 3 years of experience in a packaging technician role. Experience leading or training team members in a manufacturing environment.

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS



Technical education in mechanics, engineering, or food processing. Experience handling

complex troubleshooting and repairs

on packaging equipment.

SKILLS AND ABILITIES



Technical Proficiency:

Strong ability to operate, set up, change over, and

resolve advanced technical issues

on packaging equipment.

Training & Coaching:

Ability to

train and mentor

packaging technicians, ensuring continuous skill development.

Problem-Solving:

Capable of diagnosing

complex mechanical issues

and collaborating with maintenance teams for solutions.

Attention to Detail:

Ensure equipment efficiency and compliance with

food safety standards

Organizational Skills:

Maintain inventory and ensure

workspaces remain clean and orderly

.

Communication Skills:

Clear written and verbal communication to document processes, provide instructions, and escalate technical concerns.

Leadership & Teamwork:

Ability to work independently while providing direction to the packaging team.

PHYSICAL DEMANDS



Must be comfortable working in a hot environment (Bakery floor)

Standing:

Remain on feet for extended periods during shift operations.

Heavy Lifting & Manual Handling:

Ability to lift, push, and pull materials and equipment as required.

Manual Dexterity:

Perform precise motor movements to operate, adjust, and troubleshoot machine components.

Visual Inspection:

Continuously monitor product quality and machine performance to ensure compliance with standards.

Afternoon shift (Please note that flexibility is essential, as working hours may vary depending on the production schedule.)
