Position Overview
We are looking for a new leader who has machine operator experience and a mechanical aptitude to work in our Bag Converting Production Team. The department has 4 bag machines operating on 2 shifts. Ideally, you will learn how to operate this equipment and then supervise and train others. These machines take rolls of plastic film and convert them to finished bags with zippers, handles, and hole punching, as seen in grocery stores for Apple Bags/Pouches, etc. The ideal candidate reports to the Production Manager, is organized, empathetic, enjoys mentoring and training others, and has significant mechanical aptitude. Must be able to demonstrate problem solving ability and intuitive interpersonal skills. Champions team engagement, food safety, quality and continuous improvement.
Key Responsibilities
Leads the converting bag team to consistently adhere to all safety, quality control procedures.
Responsible for the departments production to meet or exceed its daily, weekly and month productivity metrics/targets.
Supervises, trains and coaches employees in all procedures, and equipment troubleshooting.
Coordinates with other department leaders to resolve bottleneck to converting department flow.
Ensures GMP, GFSI and Lean Manufacturing Best Practices and safety standards are maintained.
Supports employees in problem resolution, determines root cause and develop corrective actions for defects.
Participates in production meetings and reviews department's demand and capacity plan.
Maintains adequate inventory levels of WIP, Raw Materials and Consumables for production.
Communicates regularly and effectively with in-coming and off-going shift leaders about issues occurring on previous, current or following shift.
Works closely with Senor Management, the Quality Control department and other facility leaders to continuously improve department's results and team culture.
All other projects and duties, as assigned.
Qualifications
High School diploma or equivalent required.
Proficient in MS Outlook, Excel, Word, and PowerPoint.
Able to lift up to 50 lbs and operate material handling equipment safely.
Excellent English communication skills (spoken and written).
Strong attention to detail, organization, and problem-solving abilities.
Experience in food manufacturing or warehouse environment is an asset.
Knowledge of Lean Manufacturing or Six Sigma is a plus.
