Job Summary: Reporting to the Director of Manufacturing Systems, the Global Senior Packaging Engineer leads New Program Launch assigned packaging Engineers to design, test, and implement packaging designs that are an integral part of the organization's new product development process. The role will also lead teams to review and improve existing packaging designs. The role will work with internal resources and packaging suppliers to achieve functional packaging goals.

Required Education and Experience:
  • Post-Secondary Education (Undergraduate Degree) in the one of the following:
  • Engineering
  • Manufacturing
  • Minimum 5 years' experience in packaging / logistics
  • minimum 3 years program management experience.
  • Excellent organizational skills, and attention to detail
  • Strong time management skills
  • Thorough understanding of Microsoft Office (Excel, Word, and PowerPoint)
  • Extensive knowledge of CAD software (AutoCAD, Solidworks, Catia, UG)
Essential Functions:
  • Oversee and manage new Program Assigned Pkg. Engineers in the complete packaging development process, including the creation of packaging designs, prototype development, and performance testing.
  • Troubleshoot new and existing packaging problems involving designs, materials and processes and provide creative, timely, and cost- effective solutions.
  • Lead and support the analysis of engineering drawings and specification of products to determine physical characteristics of item, special handling, environmental and safety requirements, and types of materials required for packaging.
  • Must be able to manage multiple projects simultaneously
  • Work closely with global suppliers, Program Launch Management, engineering, products management, operations, logistics and sourcing.
  • Participate in specific program launch teams, to support major program, phase related packaging deliverables.
  • Identify and implement cost saving initiatives related to packaging materials, and indirectly -labor, efficiency, transportation, and storage.
  • Specify and recommend efficiency tools and test methods to develop and validate packaging designs.
  • Lead the Development and implementation of comprehensive test plans to ensure that the packaging designs exceeds customer specifications.
  • Work closely with Supply Chain Operations (SCO) to optimize packaging supply base for cost, lead time, quality, regionalization, standardization, supply assurance, and compliance with customer, regulatory, and internal requirements.
  • Support SCO to establish standards and guidelines for supplier evaluation. Evaluate and select packaging suppliers/vendors; periodically conduct vendor's reviews.
  • Abide by all Company polices including, but not limited to the following: Health and Safety, Quality and Environmental Systems, Human Resources policies, and the Martinrea Employee Handbook
Other Specific Functions:
  • Work with Metallic Lean group, to coordinate all program High Frequency Deliver System (HFDS) racks, carts requirements.
  • Support all Martinrea Flexible Mfg. Group (FMG) Business Unit / Metallic New Launch projects (HFDS, outbound racks, other fabrication projects)
  • Develops, budgets and schedules assigned packaging projects.
  • Oversee and manage new Program Assigned Pkg. Engineers supporting Tech Group Assy. to:
  • Develop Request for Proposal documents for design and installation of process and packaging.
  • Administer and controls all packaging line design, and installations.
  • Lead packaging line trials and supports commissioning and qualification activities.
  • Ensure that all applicable local, provincial (i.e., OHSA), and federal (i.e., GMP) regulatory requirements are met.
